I like Harry Kane and think he's a good player but on the balance of things I would take Saido Berahino over Harry Kane all day long.

They both have potential, but Berahino is quicker which for me is always better than strength in an attacker. Ask any defender whether they would rather face a strong striker or a quick one and every day of the week they would pick the strong option.

Berahino is better on the ball and has the better technique as well as the better passer.

The only thing in Kane's favour is the sheer number of goals he scored last season. But I would argue that Berahino would probably have got a similar amount if he was playing for Spurs rather than WBA last season. The only thing Kane has over Berahino is the better attitude.

So why would we pay 20-30m more for Kane over Berahino? We could comfortably buy TWO Berahinos for what one Harry Kane would cost, I just don't see the point in paying that much over the odds for a player.

Another way of looking at it is how many things is Harry Kane world class at? Passing? Shooting? Movement? Pace? Strength? Technique?
He is good at all those things but not great at any. At the moment he is a talented young player who has had one good season. Certainly not worth 40m+

I would like him but coasta is not the quickest either so not always do you need pace. Harry hane can also pick a pass and link up play

10 Aug 2015 18:22:59
Who is coasta, and Harry hane?

10 Aug 2015 18:29:02
shaps
ive been making the same point for a while , berahino looks the better prospect to me

10 Aug 2015 18:59:22
What do u rate about him shaps and Jred? Not really seen to much of him to make a assessment.

10 Aug 2015 19:05:18
We should look at a proven striker who has done it for more than one season. Lewandowski is head and shoulders above the Berahino level. Buy the class of player Manchester United need , that will improve the team, not what keeps Rooney happy.

10 Aug 2015 19:06:02
Just read that West Brom had signed Rondon for a club record fee. Paving the way for a Berahino exit, perhaps?

10 Aug 2015 19:22:50
Totally agree jred.

Wiganred, Costa may not be the quickest. But his link up play is probably second to none. I'm not saying strength is a bad thing in a striker, in fact strikers need a bit of strength. But pace is far more worrying for a defender. Think of it this way, when you look at most strikers they tend to be nimble and quick rather than big and robust. Because that works better against defenders.

when comparing the physical aspects of Kane and Berahino neither are tanks but neither are a racing whippet. But Berahino is quicker than Kane and Kane is stronger than Berahino. I'm just saying personally I would choose pace over strength in a striker which is one of the reasons I would pick Berahino over Kane.

10 Aug 2015 19:31:16
Honestly, I think the only thing Berahino has over Kane is the pace, don't think he's too good otherwise.

I have always said that you can true who the truly talented player is, when they can do it with litttle pace.

However, this is from what little I have watched of Berahino, tend to get quite bored when watching West Brom, so don't frequent it too often.

chris
shappy covers it in his above post.
but the lad has pace , good dribbler , good movement and a good finisher.
each to there own but i really rate reminds of ian wright

redman
u keep posting that pal but it looks like lvg has made rooney his main striker, if that's the case we are prob looking for a second striker not a big name

10 Aug 2015 19:47:09
Said the same thing about berahino last year. I think he is best young striker in the UK with massive potential if his head is screwed on right. Better than sterling or kane any of the other young guy

10 Aug 2015 19:50:43
Redman, in an ideal world that would b e the case. But this world isn't ideal and Rooney will be in the team one way or another this season. I say stick him up front, then play Depay and Pedro on the wings and hope their pace is enough to force the defenders back and create space. Then if or when Rooney proves this season that he isn't up to it then we can move him on next season without all the backlash of him not being given a chance in his best position.

10 Aug 2015 19:51:14
It's very nice that you talk about one of our players and how you'd like him at your club! I'm sure that as soon as you turn your play stations on you can buy him? But in the real world. You ain't getting harry kane!! And I really don't mean any disrespect. But to most down here your just a northern club. the Woolwich, West ham and Chelsea are the big games. And as harry said, he believes he's at the biggest club already. Good luck for the foreseeable season

10 Aug 2015 20:31:09
Brinkley if United want Kane, and pay the price I very highly doubt Kane would refuse the move.

10 Aug 2015 20:31:47
Well then, I advise you send yourself, along with Harry, back home. Your day release has been overrun by about a year or so now.

Off home you trot ;)

10 Aug 2015 21:45:44
RedDon, harry has already said he doesn't want to go. Not everyone is excited about the streets of Manchester paved with cobbled stones

10 Aug 2015 22:34:37
Sell Rooney and buy both simples.

10 Aug 2015 22:46:49
Agree with RedMan. Lewandawski is the only striker who can make the difference in the long run. Ibrahimovich will be good for the short term.
Berahino not proven and I don't know what he's achieved. I read a post saying the only thing Kane has done is score 31 goals last year!! Yes he has, and he has incredible potential. Agree with Stevie K, you don't just need pace, you need strength and a football brain, otherwise Wilson would have been world class by now. Kane wins it over berahino any day.

10 Aug 2015 23:01:38
Have to disagree there as i think kane is a complete stricker he links play really well i think berihino is quicker but not a hole lot . kane reminds me of a rvn way he runs with ball i would love see him take our no.9 jersey i think he would be great signing .

10 Aug 2015 23:06:43
lew got 17 league goals last season.
he has scored over 20 league goals in a season only twice playing in very good attack minded teams.
yet people seem he would walk into this system and get a bag full.
17 league goals for a munich team that walked the league.
why should he score more goals for this united team than he did for munich.

falcao got 4 goals last year for united (he played the first 3 games for monaco and scored 2).
he played 7 games for colombia in 2015 and got 4 goals.
rvp a proven epl striker scored 10 last season.

10 Aug 2015 23:47:40
From what I've watched of him he seems a very Ian Wright type forward, correct?

If so I'd take that over Kane any day.

11 Aug 2015 08:52:10
@jred your stats prove one thing, our system doesn't work. i would happily put money on the fact no striker will score 20+ goals in a season with LVG's pointless possession tactics !

11 Aug 2015 09:26:08
1st of all Harry isn't worth 40+ . 20's at best. That being said, I don't think Berahino is better. And I totally disagree that he has better passing or technique than Kane. Mind you, not only did Kane outscore Saido last season but he also had 4 assists to Berahino's 1.
