If we just signed a top centre back I.e Otamendi and then that was it I'd be happy we could compete. It's not all about new signings we have addressed our weak MF and have added pace up top, McNair who can step up instead of 2x CB, we have Johnstone who can step up as a number 2 or 3, pereira to complete with the likes of Herrera for a MF slot, Januzaj wide right with Mata, do we need Pedro hindering Januzaj? Wilson and Hernandez stepping in for Rooney. That's a a good squad depth, balanced, almost every player in the squad is capable of playing in a variety of formations and positions if need be. One centre back to get in with a month to go and I think LVG has everything he has asked for, I'm not worried, give the good players from our own club a chance to shine, that blended in with experience through our spine and we're good to go. Apologies for the optimism guys ha.

Great points. We have strengthens the squad and we have some great youngsters who need to get a chance, I rate McNair (as a midfielder), Pereira looks the part and Januzaj is looking hungry. I also think regular game time will help Wilson.

Welsh red. There is no way that rooney hernandez and Wilson are going to shoot us into winning the league. They won't get 30 goals between them.

We struggled to score last season when we also had RVP and Falcao so Rooney, inconsistent only scoring in bursts, Hernandez who can't play with back to goal and needs to run on to balls plus Wilson who looks to have levelled off just below first team level are going to bring us the league? I cannot see that. Memphis needs time to adapt and we need a striker like RvN

Then it all comes round to either relying on Rooney or replacing Rooney.

{Ed004's Note - I think we need to be looking at replacing Rooney over the next season or two. We are about to sell Di Maria so the funds should be there. Hopefully we could try and sign one of Lewandowski, Ibrahimovic, Kane or Lacazette (in that order)}

01 Aug 2015 16:33:28
Ed how could Ibra be an option for replacing Rooney?

Kane would be a good bet if he has a good next season.

{Ed004's Note - because he is a better player}

Thats short term thinking I would say.

Kane and Lacazette would be my choices ahead of Ibrahimovic.

All top teams have more than one top striker. So why should we be different? We need to get a top striker in there and let him and rooney fight it out. We have an incredible amount of games to go through and injuries will happen. The best option will be lewandawaski so if he's somewhat available for £35m-£45m then he will immediately take us to the next level. If arsenal get him, I shall completely despair.

I agree Ed and hopefully it's Lewandowski. Do you think it'll be a case of buying this summer and gradually phasing Rooney out? I'm always a bit sceptical with our 433 that any top striker won't want to come and play second fiddle and I can't see Rooney being happy playing second fiddle either.
Also schmidfield I think last seasons poor scoring was as much down to lack of creativity which we have more of this season hopefully.

{Ed004's Note - That is what I would hope for and why I wanted Kane at the start of the summer however I doubt Spurs would sell so close to the season opener. Hopefully, we still have interest in Lewandowski as he would be the perfect forward for us. Failing that Ibrahimovic has shown how good he is by having motm displays against us and Chelsea}

Schmidfield

Agreed, if we let Lewandowski go to Arsenal it would be a huge mistake. I posted the other day about what if and a top striker is one of the answers right now to answering the what if question.

I can't believe that if he really is available that we haven't made a beeline for him. He is the complete striker. United have always thrived on them. Hughes, rvn,rvp, rooney, Cole, Law. Even Joe Jordan scared the opposition to death, mind you, that was probably due to his toothless smile!!
Lvg, stop being a stubborn fart and go out and buy Lewi.

I remember Joe Jordan very well, saw him lay out the centre half at a time when there were no cameras. Frightening but not goal scorer
Couldn't agree more on Lewandowski, if, as the Ed's have said he is available at the right fee we should get him. LvG himself is saying we need pace and creativity but for me Lew is the one to put the ball in the net.
