Hi all, when a signs for a club or signs a new contract I believe the club shouldn't be able to sell for 2 seasons I reckon it would stop divs like di Maria thinking he can start upset at the club to force his sale, cus in theory the large contract they sign means nothing as the club will 99% of time get rid to stop the rest of the team getting unsettled, what's everyone think

Agree1 Disagree1

You can't force someone to stay somewhere mate.

31 Jul 2015 14:02:47
i see what you mean but I don't think it would ever work tbh, you would still have an unhappy player being a pain in the rectum. Player power reigns supreme

Totally unenforceable

If you structure the contracts to award loyalty and performance/achievement rather than media hype it will solve most of the problems. Better due diligence rather than a rushed desperate acquisition would have also helped.

Shame we don't learn from our lessons, clock is ticking and we are still 2 world class players short and potentially a GK. If I were in charge of FIFA/UEFA I would introduce wage caps and better structured performance based pay, which will take a lot of the mercenary element out of the game which is destroying it imo.

If you went to work in tesco and didn't like it, would you be forced to stay 2 years?

31 Jul 2015 14:52:58
Stand united were talking about football not tesco but different don't you think, the players don't have a choice anyway there under contract as the team can't sell unless player is willing ie the whole point of a contract, if you get a mobile contract the say oh I no longer want it will the provider say yes that's fine we will cut ties, no they will say your under contract deal with it

31 Jul 2015 15:42:11
Stand - probably mate if you were a high earner or you would have non-compete clauses at the very least preventing you from joining a competitor for a period of time. Most people earning over £500k+ a year will be tied up in contracts in the private sector if the bosses are doing their jobs properly and it was a competitive market. Especially if there were big signing on bonuses etc (recruitment consultants/agents would also have to suffer some of the hit if the employee doesn't fulfil their contract), not sure if that happens directly in football.

Footballers shouldn't have it both ways, wanting to be treated like a general low level employee when they get upset but taking the rewards of somebody with 20X more responsibility. That's why it's a farce for me, players think they are gods, are treated like gods, but act like kids with ADHD if they don't get their own way.

Are United required to sell Di Maria just because he doesn't want to play for us anymore? Is a contract worthless?

31 Jul 2015 17:59:50
Big poppa, if you have a mobile contract and don't want it any more you pay what's due to end it. You can't keep someone for two years if they don't want it.

At the end of the day your missing the point in that United don't have to sell him. They can make him stay, but by accepting an offer from psg they allow him to leave.

Di Maria has acted like cock there's not getting away from it. But if players want to move on they move on. When we have a player who's been terrible first season, I bet you wouldn't wish they were stuck with us for two years if someone was willing to buy them

At the end of the day the modern football is a tosser, but what do you expect them to be like when clubs like ours throw £300k a week wages at people? Makes it very hard for me to part with my money to go to old Trafford.

31 Jul 2015 19:31:27
Amen beast it's all the cake and eating it with the footballer and I know it would be unenforceable but I agree with the original poster there should be a loyalty period within the contract what Di Maria has done is unforgivable and there has to come a time when it's stopped.

31 Jul 2015 20:35:12
But my point is simply if they knew it was impossible for them to leave in them 2 years they wouldn't go there in the first place or they only go to the club for the right reasons, it's a shambles tbh, a club as big as ours shouldn't be treat like that might put off other potential stars no doubt his press conference when he leaves will be slating us for why cus he wasn't playing good enough to start
