Busy day yesterday, so didn't get time to post. Been reading through all yesterday's posts this morning.
Going back to the ADM debate, for me the issue isn't just his poor form last season. I think we can allow a foreign player, from a completely different culture, a "settling in" period. The problem with ADM is, he never really wanted to be here in the first place. He came for the money, end of. I still maintain United, as a club, wanted to make a "statement" to the football world last summer. And they chose to do that by making a massive signing. Everyone knew that, and ADM was one of the few big names available.
At the end of the day, we were the only club stupid (or desperate?) enough to pay the asking price and the wages.
People who think he is one of the best players in the world are going on reputation alone. They clearly have not seen much of him on a regular basis. For every "great" game he has, he has 5 or 6 bad ones. You may get away with that in team of superstars playing in a less competitive league. You certainly won't in the EPL. If he genuinely wanted to be here, I think he would have a lot more backing from the fans. But is is here for one thing, and that is money.
I would be happy, from a football point of view, if he stayed and became the player that we all want him to be. But I don't think he has the desire to do that. So if PSG want him, and stump up the money, we should wish him well and let him go.
And all this talk of a massive loss may or may not be correct. I think only Brendan made the right point about his "value" yesterday. A player is an asset and has purchase value spread over the length of his contract. £60m over 5 years is £12m a season. So £48m ish would be about right, at least from a business point of view.
Not sure if those figures are 100% accurate in the case of ADM, but is serves as an example.
Personally, I hope we sell ADM, and use the money to buy a good player who wants to play for Manchester United, rather than just wants the money that we will pay.

The most sensible Adm post I have seen Betster

Couldn't agree more Betty. A great player is not only judged on skill. Attitude, professionalism, desire, leadership, enthusiasm. All these have to be in place. Unfortunately, as you say, ADM does not appear to have any of these.
From day one, he has looked like someone who wants to be somewhere else.
We cannot carry passengers in our team.

Schmidfield

Day one is a little harsh. I thought his first few games were exciting, the goal at Leicester outstanding, then he seemed to dip.
In terms of what happens I wouldn't be upset if he left as long as he is properly replaced. I am of the opinion we need a striker to compete at the top level whatever ADM does. If ADM leaves I am torn as to whether to give Pereira more time because he might have something or to buy a Reus or Bale. Yet if we want to win something we need to have the best players now.

Great post Betty,

We should not keep an unhappy player and replace him with another winger.

If you were to put your world 11 down on paper this time last year i'm pretty sure ADM would be in a lot of peoples teams even before we signed him .He was Real's better player every time i saw them and started off great for us.For some to say get rid doesn't seem right TBH even Torres never lost his powers that quick .Man Utd should be in for every player who people think would get in their World 11 every season .His personal problems will of had a factor on some of his performances but he will get back to the player we all know he is.But if he is wanting to go then so be it .I still think its 90% media rubbish

25 Jul 2015 11:26:13
does anyone really know if ADM wants to be here or not.
do we know what's going on in his private life.
for me at the start of the season he was the stand out player in league ,which was a carry over from the previous season where he was one of the best players about.
then he got injured house broke into and lost his form

Bfro. I think personal problems have a big say. And if it is true that his family have not settled here then there's nothing tat can be done. Paris might be more glamorous so they might prefer it there, though I hasten to add, that Paris won't be any safer than Manchester. What happened to him and his family with regards the break in is really bad, but unfortunately shit happens. They need to deal with it as a family and think in 6 years time they can live anywhere they want and not worry about a thing. So he has to be professional and put his foot down.

Don't think we can value a player based on the fee decided by years left on contract. We paid £18m for de Gea and he has 1 year left, does that mean we're happy to take £3.5m for him this season? That be fair? Doesn't work like that. Di Maria is a top player, and he showed that at Madrid, and in his first 7 games for us. Now there's only one thing we need to know, does he want to play for us. If yes, use him to his strengths and you have a top player. If no, then sell immediately and £50m would be a good price

Stand , the situation with DeGae is different. We bought him as a young keeper with potential. His value has risen dramatically inmreal terms , but as he has only 1 year left on his contract , interested parties know they can get him for nowt in a years time. We over paid for DiMaria , and after such a poor season we will not get what we paid for him.
I know what I said above is only theoretical about price and length of contract , and in reality , clubs would always want to make a profit. But also remember the issue of wages. One of the Eds told us he is the highest paid player in EPL history. I don't know figures , but I would guess that means in excess of 250 grand a week for someone who couldn't dislodge Ashley Young from the team.
And going back to the fee/ length of contract thing , that is exactly why , if Madrid won't pay what we want now , we are prepared to keep DeGae for the last year of his contract and let him leave next year for nothing.

Not doubting we overplayed for Di Maria, but I still feel if he is played in a system that suits and style that suits him he is easily one of our most talented players. If we're not going to use him in s system that plays to his strengths then why on earth did we shell out £60m for him. I'd personally like to sell him if we could replace with either Bale, or Reus. If not I'd keep him

{Ed004's Note - I wonder if LvG is playing Depay centrally so there is a spot on the left side for Di Maria?}

Great post stand united

25 Jul 2015 14:42:17
So is ed004 hopeful he'l stay too or am I the only one?

{Ed004's Note - If he wants to stay and improves his attitude and works hard that would be brilliant however if he isn't settled and pushing for a move then I would let him go depending on the offer}

25 Jul 2015 17:18:10
No way will ADM suffer from Torres syndrome he is just too talented and assists are a major part of his game.Even the shit season he just had only Fabregas made more.He will be back

25 Jul 2015 19:25:51
Spot on post. Can't believe 5 disagreed with it. A player is only worth what a club will pay for him. You may think your house is worth £350k but if most anyone will pay is £300k looks like you have a £300k house!

25 Jul 2015 19:58:23
Or we could all get off his back and support him as long as he's one of our players! As long as he's contracted to us, and anyone else for that, we should get behind them and all pull together to get back to where we belong.

25 Jul 2015 20:30:40
I will support anyone who wears the shirt as long as they put in the effort and have the desire to fight for the club. What I don't support is players who are only here for the cash and not prepared to put in the graft. I don't claim to know anything about ADM personally , but actions speak louder than words.
I still believe is only come here because we were the only ones willing to pay what was being asked for in both fee and wages.
