My 1st serious post of the day.

Is cillison from ajax better than begovic, lloris or indeed valdes??

Rumours gathering momentum with him

Agree1 Disagree3

I only watched him in the WC - as soon as rumours started about Krul coming in on here I said "why would we sign Krul when Cilleson was first choice for LVG during the WC?!"

I wasn't impressed by his stature in the slightest and would rather Valdes than him, he just didn't seem to inspire/organise those around him. I'd rather Lloris out of all of them, but I am no expert on keepers.

I'd love to be up against Cilleson in a one-on-one, or going for a cross and that shouldn't be the case for a Utd keeper.

I have to agree beast, cilleson looks weaker than de gea did when we signed him, the only 2 keepers who i'd be looking at would be oblak and Lloris.

09 Jul 2015 16:02:38
Fair enough, not seen him at all. Remember your annoyance at the link yo krul and u weren't alone. I personally would prefer lloris but can't see levy letting it happen

09 Jul 2015 16:17:17
Oblak will be my choice.

09 Jul 2015 16:19:10
Jan Oblak without question is who we should be going after!

09 Jul 2015 16:54:38
Not on the same level as Lloris and Begovic!

09 Jul 2015 16:56:18
Oblak is absolutely average.

Mark my words, that guy will never be a top goalkeeper.

Cillessen for me is a different class to all but Lloris.

Beast, what are you talking about? Cillessen's biggest strength is his ability in 1v1 situations. Watch the Barcelona game from last year where he saved 5 or 6 1v1's against Messi and Neymar.

One of his other biggest qualities is his ability to command his defence. He's incredibly vocal for Ajax.

Cillessen, Lloris and then Valdes in that order.

I wonder how many of you have watched Cillessen play consistently for a season or two? he's absolutely top draw with a few improvements needed.

The boy is better with his feet that De Gea and only really needs to work on his diving at full stretch and his parrying - which will improve at United.

Ironically, he claims more balls that Lloris, Begovic and De Gea. 98% claim success to be specific.

The guy is 6'1 and weighs 13 stone - Making him the same height and bulkier than Lloris.

But it's okay, create opinions based on FIFA and vague memories of a World Cup which he was brilliant in, yes brilliant. Go back and watch every Holland game (I re-watched 4 to write my report) and you'll see just how good he was during that tournament, but because of one substitution he gets written off.

Let me say this, Lloris would be brilliant, Valdes would be a good choice also, but if you want a goalkeeper who can only improve, has very little ego and i so determined to learn. He's in contact with Van Der Sar and his using his knowledge.

Oh and if you know anything about coaching, he was coached by Wilfried Brookhuis, a man very well respected and highly sought after in Dutch football.

With Jose here, the guy goes nutz at his defence. Great keeper, but I'd go Lloris b4 him 😉

09 Jul 2015 17:46:33
Patzi, I'd take either Lloris or him, there isn't much between it apart from about £30 Million in asking prices.

Something special about Cillessen though, he's been building a brilliant career under the radar for a while.

09 Jul 2015 17:56:37
Moonrinho I can guarantee oblak will be a much better keeper than cilessen who is very average himself.

09 Jul 2015 18:39:33
RedDon,

If you say so mate. I'm not sure you've watched enough of either keeper to make that call. Oblak will do well behind a well drilled defensive unit at Athletico.

His entire career he's been dreadful for the first half of the season, not average, not bad but dreadful! - Olympiakos scoring 3 of the softest goals past him spring to mind. He has zero positional awareness, he's always in the wrong place and his shot stopping is non-existent.

he balls great theatrical saves out of the bag when he has time to see the ball, often with long range shots that he could just as easily catch.

All the hype for him comes from a 3 clean sheets against 3 teams in the lower half of the table (all of which scored less goals that QPR who finished bottom of the EPL) and because of 2 games against Real Madrid and Barcelona which he did play well in.

He's not even the Athletico number one for christ sake, Moya is (a far superior keeper by the way) and if it wasn't for his injury Oblak would have never got a chance to feature as much as he did.

The boy has Mignolet quality written all over him.

I would seriously be worried if United were ever seriously in for him.

Cillessen very average?

Is it because he hasn't got a fancy name and he doesn't play for a European powerhouse?

I would trust Cillessen just as much, if not more than I trust De Gea. now he may lack in areas where De Gea is superior, but that can be said visa versa.

If we sign Cillessen we would have signed a keeper better that Ter Stegen, Oblak, Begovic, Neto, Butland or any other young decent keeper you could think of.

He's destined to be a world class goalkeeper.

I'm not really one for Youtube videos, but I'm not sure how you can all this guy average.

Also Beast, he pulls of a lot of good 1v1 saves ;)

Jose - Yeah I haven't watched him much at all, I tend to judge a book by it's cover if it's just a quick opinion. He looks feeble to me and I would have relished going up against him for a challenge, he wouldn't intimidate.

That said if you have watched him more than a few games at the WC it's more than me. Just going on my gut that he doesn't seem right, obviously people should pay more attention to the views of people who have seen him often.

I did say at the start of my post it's not basing it on any hard evidence.

09 Jul 2015 20:09:36
Beast,

I can understand the points of view where people don't think he's the right guy, I just wish more poster would actually take the time to watch some games (download a torrent if you can't watch it live) instead of basing their opinion on how fancy their name is and a YouTube video.

If you can catch any of the Barcelona games that he's played you'll see how good his 1v1 ability is as well by the way.

Moonrinho before you assume, yes I watch plenty of spanish and my fair share of Dutch football. Oblak is still young and can improve, but already in my opinion a good keeper. It's unfair to compare to Mignolet because in all honesty Mignolet is one of the worst keepers in the league. My point on cilessen is I don't think he can improve on what he already is. And what he already is, is no better than what we currently have.

My personal preference would be Leno or Perin. Both young and already great keepers, Leno more so than Perin. I think Valdes deserves his shot at no1 with a young understudy. Nobody more experienced than Valdes to learn from. He's played many CL finals, WC finals etc.

"MOOOOOONN!!! MOOOOOONN! !!"
With u Jose, Cilessen is getting a raw deal here. In my time, the Dutch have always produced some of the world's top keepers. This guy is no exception. But purely because I see a lot more of Lloris, he shades it by a rizlas pose

😆

09 Jul 2015 23:27:09
RedDon,

Well then mate, if you watch plenty of both you'll be able to see the progress Cillessen has made over the past 3 years, would you not?

Oblak doesn't do anything! much like Migs he's an average shot stopper with some of the worst goalkeeper positioning I've ever seen.

I would 100% honestly say that if we signed him as anything more than a back up goalkeeper I would be incredibly worried. He's just not very good mate.

Like I said, he's not even Athletico's first choice and when he has been, with the exception of a 'good' month he's been diabolical.

Cillessen, Lloris or Keep Valdes as far as i'm concerned.

Lets just agree to disagree mate aha.
