Hi all,

With all the talk and speculation surrounding Ramos, Otamendi, Schneiderlin etc I think our need for a proven goalscorer has been overlooked slightly. Obviously our defence and central midfield need addressing, but with the failed trail for Falcao and RVP entering the twilight of his career it leave us with Rooney, RVP and Wilson which in my opinion is not enough. To win the league or to compete in the cups you need a man who is going to bang in 20+ goals for you.

This brings me to who is available and who is actually good enough. I really like Lacazette but that seems a no go right now. Benzema is a pipe dream as Madrid would not sell and he seems settled there. Cavani is massively overrated and wouldn't see him doing well here and the same goes for Higuain, not to mention the huge transfer fees. Now a certain Edin Dzeko seems to be surplus to requirements at City and he is being touted around to a few clubs for a fee I have heard to be £16 million. Now for a player who is most importantly proven in the Premiership, has scored goals here on a consistent basis and is also effective in the air, this fee is an absolute snip! I know one issue would be City ad they would be reluctant to sell to us, but usually if a player is not wanted the club will sell to whoever for the right price. Take Cech from Chelsea to Arsenal as an example and our purchase of RVP in 2012.

We need a proven striker and ideally someone who could settle straight away. So with what is out there right now I think Dzeko would be a shrewd purchase if United could do a deal.

He's surplus to requirements at City for a reason, how do you expect us to finish above them if we buy their worst players? Most City fans I know think dzeko is terrible.

I don't think he is 'terrible' but we should be aiming to bring in much better.

i rather go for kane then dzeko .

Agreed Dwill.

Not that I want Dzeko but the statement He's surplus to requirements to them means nothing about how he could be for us. I remember a certain Mr Tevez being surplus to requirements for us didn't he win the league with them.

I personally think Rooney will get 20+ in the league if played as a striker.

I prefer keeping Rooney, RvP and Wilson and focus on building other parts of the team that need immediate attention. I think we can wait until next summer to get a new striker.

Integrating too many players into the team will always be a challenge.

Agree with Rich. Dzeko is an excellent player and City have aguerro who is probably the best forward in the league at present, and that's why dzeko isn't first choice.
Fergie tried to buy him before he went to City. I think for the price he's been offered, if true, will be an excellent purchase.

Nomid,
It is a pity that SAF was not as keen on Aguero as he should have been when he became available and SAF should have competed to buy the argentine instead of waffling about noisy neighbours and keeping the cheque book in his pocket, too late now.

Mumbai, I don't believe Rooney will get over 20 league goals because he has too many I neffective patches where he doesn't score.

As for Dzeko, I think there are better out there and if we buy reserve strikers from our rival do we really think it will power us above them?

I can't see Rooney scoring 20+ goals for United in a season now. He is not the out and put striker he once was, regardless of where LVG plays him. Of what is available Dzeko is a good fit and as Nomidfield correctly says Fergie wanted him before he went to City. And with RVP off to Fenerbache it leaves us with Rooney and Wilson at present. A proven quality striker is a priority. Can have all the midfielders, wingers etc in the world but it is all for nothing if we have nobody capable of putting the ball in the net.
