Interested to see how many of you guys would consider signing Vlaar as defensive cover now he is available on a free, especially with the injury crisis still fresh in the mind from last season.

Agree1 Disagree10

I'd rather promote McNair than take Vlaar, another injury prone player is not what we need.
New signing, Smalling, Jones, Rojo then McNair I think it'll be.

100%, we need an experienced head back there who understands the P word and can fill in when key players are missing. Too many sick notes at the back and too many games to be relying on Blackett, McNair or others filling in. They aren't ready.

We need CB signings desperately - every year we end up dropping in Carrick or players that aren't ready - it will also add competition for places, too many times a CB plays just because he is the only fit one available.

{Ed004's Note - As long as we sign Ramos or Otamendi I do not think we need Vlaar who is quite injury prone}

vlaar had his own injury crisis last season

Granted he is not Mr fitness, but he is an experienced guy who is a leader and knows LVG's way. We are chronically short of leaders/intelligence at the back, Ramos suspended hah, Jones/Smalling injured - it leaves us short for a congested season. He is better than McNair and Blackett currently and on a free its a no brainer for me.

But I appreciate why people don't like the idea.

Ed 004 is there a small chance we could sign ramos AND otimendi???

{Ed004's Note - Highly unlikely}

Isn't there a reason he is on a free?

03 Jul 2015 17:10:37
If we can't get anyone else, he'd be worth taking a pop on, but I have a feeling, with a year under LVG under their belt, we are going to see a much more organized back line, and better performances and fewer injuries amongst Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw and Rafael, plus further strides taken by McNair. I also expect Smalling to continue the process of maturation into a leadership role.

IMO our need is not as desperate as many make out and, if at all possible, we should look for someone better.

Another laurent blanc situation we have the funds and there are better players around. He will be as big a waste of wages as nani has been the last couple of years. there's a reason we take the mick about kolo. So why get our own

03 Jul 2015 22:20:32
I highly doubt his wages would be anywhere near Nanis. We are talking about a player who was probably the best defender in the World Cup and coped brilliantly against some of tge best players in the world who is available for free!! Fair enough he had injurys last season but so did Jones and not to mention our 30m new boy Shaw. Seems to me people only want the star names to get their blood pumping, yet logical moves don't excite the masses.

We'd be better off with Gordon McQueen (wearing one of his fetching golfing jumpers) in the back four rather than Vlaar . assuming MUTV would release him.

I'd rather play Hayley McQueen there.
