So United are looking for €40m (about £29m) for DeGea, apparently. But Madrid want to include Coentrao, supposedly. Well, tell them to get f*cked. I'd rather keep him for a year and let them lose the league to Barca again next season, with Casillas in goal, than take a derisory amount or have Coentrao involved.

I defended DeGea, when he first came, for the whole season that he got slated on here and everywhere else. And to be, more than likely, dumped now by him, has left a bitter taste tbh. I get he is a Madrid lad, but I was certain he was an Atletico boy, so it can't be his dream move. It's like me playing for Madrid, and leaving to play for City, just because my gf didn't like Madrid, it would never happen. He is settled here and we are back on the up again. So if it is just because of his gf then i'm sorry, but it's pathetic, they could split up in 6 months.

A footballer has a short career at the very top, he has plenty of years to live anywhere he likes later on. He is a very good goalkeeper, but if he does go and we end up getting a stupid amount for him, as it is his last year of contract, I may have a little smile if the move doesn't work out well. Let's face it, if he makes a mistake or two, he'll have the whole Madrid crowd on his back. At least here, he was supported 100% in the stadium when he struggled, if not elsewhere. He won't get that support at Real.

If he signed a contract, then left next season ensuring we got what he is worth, or told Real now that he would sign for them if they paid that amount now, then I would respect that a lot more. The way it is happening now, it's like he isn't that bothered that we have helped make him the player he is and took a chance on him. Maybe I am judging him on my own moral values though, we aren't all the same I guess.

Valdes for number 1 when DeGea leaves, for me. Just as good as any of the other available keepers out there. If we complete the rebuild we won't be so reliant on our gk anyway.

brendan
will u still support him if he signs a new contract , after using madrid to get a pay rise

19 May 2015 14:26:58
jred we've supposedly offered 5 times what he was on and what we're offering is more than what he'd get at RM. If he goes back to Spain it's likely to be personal reasons.

19 May 2015 14:28:22
He would have got a pay rise anyway my good man, it's his last year and he has more experience and has improved greatly since he signed the last one. He will need to earn my respect again though. I think he has handled it poorly considering what the club and fans have done for him since joining as a young lad. Depends if he does it again I suppose ;-)

I would rather get something for him Brendan than let him go for nothing. We have put ourselves in this position and DDG now holds all the cards. Madrid have every right to offer us peanuts but I hope Woodward and co get the best possible deal should he go.

{Ed004's Note - Honestly I wouldn't be too upset if De Gea went but at the same time we got deals sorted for Bale and Cech. Realistically our defence will be a lot better next season with the imminent signing of a centre back (probably Hummels) and a settled back four. I don't think De Gea had much work to do in most of the big games this season vs City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. Only concern is how good on the ball is Cech?}

reports today that united have improved there offer .
a player coming to the end of his contract negotiating for an improved contract and surprise surprise he is linked to a move to another club.

im sure some fans now won't be happy until he leaves (how could he possibly play for the club again after holding them to ransom)

if he was to move to madrid it would make a lot more sense for madrid and ddg to move next year for nothing .
of course he might just want a massive deal from united

19 May 2015 15:02:47
Depending on the original offer, if it is what has been reported, then to go above that would be ridiculous! He is a very good gk, but if the rest of the team is sorted, our gk won't be as hugely important. I accept totally, that negotiating etc is part of contract deals, along with other clubs interest, but when it goes on so long and LVG needs to be asked about it and explain what he thinks over and over, it has gone too far.

To me, it didn't look like he thought it was his last game at OT on Sunday, but maybe he wasn't wanting to give anything away. We shall see. If he is reading this, I am happy to move to Madrid for a few years and look after his gf, it would be a tough job, but for United I would do it.

What I would like to see him do is sign a new agreement with both parties acknowledging that if RM meet the buyout clause he will have the option of leaving with no hard feelings. What's galling is the possibility of him departing on the cheap, and I think he owes United the certainty that he won't.

One would have thought it would be in his agent's interests if de Gea follows this course. It would mean negotiating 2 more lucrative arrangements, and probably a bigger payday.

19 May 2015 15:39:34
it would be in ddg interest to move next summer , madrid wouldn't have to pay a transfer fee so he could get himself a great deal.

19 May 2015 16:16:58
I'm with Brendan on this. I think the way ddg is handling the situation is extremely poor. Whoever is advising him is not thinking right. Why not sign the contract and in a year, Madrid will have to cough up £50m for him and all parties will be happy.
I would leave him in the reserves if he doesn't sign and Madrid will come running. Call their bluff. Our club has always been terrible at transfer dealings out of OT. About time we change that.

there are 2 points
1 is ddg using interest from madrid to get the best possible deal from united ? if so will some fans then turn on him for holding the club to ransom.

2 if you where ddg why sign a new contract so madrid then have to pay 50 mill.
if i was ddg i would want that 50 mill in my back pocket .

surprised more players don't see there contract out,

19 May 2015 17:09:14
If you were the manager of a team and a player refused to re-up his contract you might be tempted to sit them in favour of someone who was more committed. No player wants to sit on the bench.

Also, renegotiation often involves more pay during the course of the contract, so why would a player spurn that, even if it means extending the duration?

Thirdly, there's no guarantee that the transfer cost savings go into the player's pocket. Remember clubs have choices too. They don't have to sign someone. There's always a potential replacement. So they're not going to fork out £100m over 4-5 years in transfer costs and wages to one player when they could get a comparable talent for half that amount.

he only has 12 month on his contract .
im sure himself and madrid could work a deal out .
he could sign for madrid this january.

even if they gave ddg a 10 mill signing on fee it would be a great deal for club and player .

also if your going to make a player sit on the bench for the last 12 month you might as well just let him go and get his wage of the bill.

19 May 2015 17:48:51
Did we offer him an improved contract 12 months ago? Because if not, the club surely has to foot a lot of the blame for letting it get to this point. He deserved a pay rise after last season and we all know the risks of letting a players contract run down.

Jred, I don't get the impression that this is about money for ddg but I could be wrong. If he does want to go to Madrid though I agree he would be silly so sign a new contract with us at this point as he could command a far better deal out of contract than he could having recently signed one.

Its a messy situation and the ball is totally in ddg's court. I hope he stays but above all else I just hope the situation gets sorted sooner rather than later, allowing us to get focussed on incoming signings.

if he really wanted 100 % to go to madrid the negotiation would of been short and sweet .
this seems to be dragging out
