Realistically, how many points do folk think David De Gea has got us this season? I know we all agree that his brilliance has been a huge factor on our march to the CL this season and we all give him credit game after game (which is totally justified) but how many points do we reckon we owe to him?

I'd say 15 all up, which is ultimately equivalent to five of our winning games. That's a massive return for a keeper and it highlights our reliance on the Spaniards this year. If we had played this same team this season, put in the exact same performances game after game but with say Lindegaard in goal we would be languishing in and around 6th spot in my opinion.

Hope DDG stays for a long time!

Well that is saying that lindegaard wouldn't have made any of the saves de gea has made this season. If we had another top keeper he could have made some of the saves de gea has made, the only two that spring to mind that I don't think other keepers would have saved are the last minute one against everton and the one on Saturday against palace. Obviously de gea has been fantastic and has made a very minimal amount of mistakes whereas some other keepers may have made them here or there.

In other words it is impossible to say how many more points de gea has got us than another keeper would have got us, but I think he has probably made us about 15 points with good saves, what you would expect from a top top keeper to be honest.

That one vs stoke for the diouf header and the hazard save at OT springs to mind too

You could have said the same about Schmeichel in fairness , especially the season we chased down Newcastle .

12 May 2015 07:12:06
I hope he doesn't go either, I don't even think Neuer is making some of the saves De Gea had to make! Best in the World! Even his presence when corners and free kicks come in has improved ten fold! Love him, love him, love him! CL more or less certain, why would he go? Let's hope Mr. Van Gaal spends WISELY come summer so we are set up nicely for both the league and CL! Who knows, maybe more?

de gea has been fantastic i would say he has been worth 15 points as well .
a bit like schmeichel did when we caught newcastle.
i also think GDS post is the funniest ever , just read between the lines

jred,

In what way is it funny mate? I was pretty much agreeing with JMB on the 15 point thing, just think it is impossible to say how many of them saves another keeper would have made, is that not the case?

12 May 2015 09:11:10
TRUMOURS,

Spot on with them 2 saves, they were fantastic as well, he has been amazing the last 2 years, so much so that when the opposition get through one on one you still think there is a pretty good chance they won't score, maybe that's why our defenders let it happen so often?

12 May 2015 10:13:52
So we are all in agreement that our keeper has pretty much had an almighty say in where we finished. GDS the thing is not many keepers could have handled the complete onslaught on his goal the way DDG has done this season. Spectalcular saves are all well and good but to have the mental strength and ability to keep out the opposition week after week is something else. Suarez almost won Liverpool the league last year single handedly and DDG has almost single handedly given us CL football next season for me.

Somebody is having fun with the disagree button today!

Think we are all in agreement that DDG has been amazing and has definitely had a big say in us getting top 4. I posted the other day about us having a lot of players that play well when the team is playing well but not that one player who drags us out of the sh*t when everybody has been awful I must say when I wrote that I forgot about DDG as usually you would not expect it to be your keeper that is the player to do this.

Next season we should hopefully be stronger defensively, I really want DDG to stay, but I have a feeling that he may leave, which will be a very sad day for the club and one that needs to be handled well.

in your op
maybe people think that for some reason you where trying to underplay ddg performance this season.
i don't think lindegaard would of played as well.

or that any keeper could/would of made the saves that ddg has with the exception of the 2 u mentioned.

i also think he has done better "than any top keeper" as you put it .
imo he has been right up there with the very best in the world

12 May 2015 16:14:06
That is some interesting comprehension you have there, I was saying it was impossible to put an exact figure on it as you don't know how many of the saves another keeper would have made.

I don't think Lindegaard would have done as well either but whether he would have made some of the saves is impossible to answer, so it is impossible to put a number of points on it.

What reason would I have for underplaying his performances?

Blinking heck GDS, it's half empty man! Stop it!

In other news that black board is white.
