Lots of talk of 5 or 6 new signings for next year but I worry this is too many. We are being very successful right now playing 2 of the 5 we signed last year. Happy to strengthen the squad but I don't think we want more than 3 players who might go straight into the 1st team. Any more and it would be disruptive and like starting again. We have seen from other teams that mass influxes can be a real problem. The most likely ones are RB, CB, CM as starters with possible wide player and forward as squad players. Just my view of course

{Ed004's Note - I would agree. I think a top right back to replace Valencia and a top top cb and we will have the makings of a great defence. Di Maria will eventually show his class and replace Young and then we should sign someone to replace Fellaini who would still be an important player for us just not a garunteed starter. Then the following season look at replacing Carrick and Rooney/RVP}

Well said, consistency is king

I also agree AJH but people will tend to expect the world when posting on here, it is just how it works. I have yet to see a long list from Fresh including Ronaldo yet so I assume that is to come ;) (love you Fresh).

The rebuild started last year and LVG actually did very well with the signings made, they were 'United class' something some of the signings have not been in recent years. This will be topped up this year with a few new signings but we are by no means in desperate need for signings like we were at the beginning of last summer and the summer before.

I think we would challenge for the league with the team we have now to be honest, so an extra 3 or 4 world class signings and we would have a fantastic chance next season. We know we have the funds available so I think the summer needs to be 'quality over quantity' when it comes to signings.

Exactly the same view as me. I don't want 6-7 players , just 3 top top ones possibly 4

{Ed004's Note - Out of curiosity would people prefer a striker brought in ahead of a winger? Depay seems a very likely signing and he is one of those that has the potential to be a top player. This is kind of like déjà Vu. We missed out on Hazard years ago and regretted it since. However, we have Mata and Di Maria for first choice wide players and both are world class. Mata has been fantastic lately and Di Maria was in the top 5 players in the world last season. Then for cover we have Young and Januzaj who needs game time. Whereas up top we will be left short if Falcao leaves, RVP is sold or doesn't find his form from past seasons and Hernandez goes. But if you buy a top striker Rooney is dropped into midfield probably at the expense of Herrera again and that's not something I want to see. But if Rooney gets injured I don't trust our other striking options atm}

I think a serious problem is the amount of players whose contracts run out 2016. We will see a lot go this summer and we will also have Europe to contend with, unfortunately 5-6 players will be needed just so we can compete on both fronts.

I totally agree, the team that we have put out in the last few games has been incredibly effective. As the ed said, Di Maria will eventually come in to replace Young who will be a rotation option (a very good option). The back line is where the most serious concerns lie, Valencia has performed admirably and Rafael is out of favour so a new right back such as Clyne is a necessity. Also I still have my doubts over Jones. Hummels alongside Smalling would be my first choice pair with Rojo and Jones back up. The midfield of Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini has worked really well, but I think Fellaini will lose his place in the side to a striker like Cavani who will remain to be a handful due to their size but will also have the striker's role come more naturally to them. Apart from that I think we are good, we will probably see Depay come in, but not as a starter.

Touch wood rooney seems to stay fit thankfully so i'd be happy with him as main man up top with cover in the form of wilson and ings seems very possible (both good young players to grow into a 1st regular) and we have other players in the team that can add to the goal, mata has a good record, ander is showing he can be double figures goal scorer from the mid field also and when di maria is on form he can put it on a plate for them and fellani in the air! And depay is showing clear goal scoring ability! So go for the needed RB And CB for the 1st and then a winger, CM and striker for the squad

Ed004, if it was a striker or Depay I'd go with Depay. I think he's shown enough that he could in a couple of years time be a player who scores 15/20 a season from a wide area like Hazard or Sanchez in a top league. While our striking options would not be ideal if Rooney got injured I feel Depay is going to be too good to miss out on. If we secure him he could be a massive part of the future of our team over the next 10 years.

Just out of curiosity Ed004 what would you prefer and what striker would you want if you are replacing RVP and Falcao?

{Ed004's Note - I would probably opt for a winger but would worry about Januzaj's development. Maybe he is due a loan to a premiership side like Everton who plays good football and will be losing a few wide options in the summer. I would keep RVP for a season, however, he is on big wages and might not want to be a squad player just yet. Apparently Vietto has a cheap buyout clause under 20 million euros so could be affordable or maybe Ings if we want to be greedy and get a winger and a striker. Leave the striker position for Rooney next season giving more game time to Wilson and maybe Ings. I can't think of any top strikers available except maybe Lacazette}

A midfielder, a CB and a RB should be priority.
But we already have a good RB in Rafael, I can't believe we are not giving him more chances.

I think Depay could play as a striker or on the left . Falcao, Hernandez and possibly van Persie will leave, so he will be good back up,and competition,for Rooney, Di Maria, Young. He's got a sweet right foot and he does look like he could be a very good player.

Don't forget Shaw will also likely settle and be a regular starter. As for ADM I'm not convinced by him and not sure he really wants to be here, no facts, just a gut feel. I'd like Wilson to get more game time and hopefully Adnan pushes on as well but if Depay p is available then I think we need to buy him. As you say, if RVP and Falcao both go then we will be light up front so may need to also add a striker.

{Ed004's Note - thats why I was suggesting affordable targets such as Ings and Vietto}

AJH
I agree about ADM, I also get the vibes that he don't want to be here, IF that's the case then we have to let him go.

@Ed004

Our priority should be a CB, RB, CM and a winger who can chip in with goals and could be something special in potential.

I don't think we should buy another top striker if we are going to stick to the current formation of playing just one striker. A backup striker like Ings is what we need. We also have Wilson who I have a lot belief in. I definitely wouldn't spend a huge fortune on Cavani (good player, but will go for almost twice his real value). Pogba too, good player, but way overpriced imo. Rather go for Vidal/Gundogan.

Also, looking at Depay's goalscoring record this season at PSV, he looks certain to chip in with a few goals if played regularly. Herrera is starting to score too. Fellaini chips in with his fair share and given gametime so will Di Maria and Mata.

The key to this formation is one top striker playing regularly and in form going to 30-35 goals in the season and who also brings others into play and creates space for them (Rooney is probably the most ideal striker to do that). Goals from midfield and in general all over the pitch is what the 4-3-3 Philosophy is all about.

{Ed004's Note - I agree with everything you have said except for the Pogba comment. If there was one player we could sign this summer (bar Ronaldo and Messi) I would pick him. He is the ideal midfield signing to replace Fellaini. One thing I noticed while watching him play this season is how much he drifts out wide because Juventus play a diamond formation. It would give us the fluidity to have him and Di Maria (Di Maria replacing Young in the current system and Pogba replacing Fellaini) swapping positions and would add even more to our attack. I would be delighted if you offered me Coleman, Hummels and Pogba right now. I feel it would leave us with the best first 11 in the league. Then the following summer if Wilson still isn't ready sign a top striker and Carrick replacement. I think Smalling is finally starting to fulfil his potential, Shaw is a top talent and will be better next season after a proper pre season. Mata and Herrera are brilliant together while we can all see the class of Carrick (Blind will cover for him so we can manage Carrick's game time properly), Di Maria is a top player and Rooney is our captain and is finally being played in his proper position}

Absolutely impeccable taste Ed.

Depay has been World Player of the year for the last three seasons in my latest FM game, regularly chipping in with 20 goals a season and 30/40 assists. Just saying, like.

Januzaj was runner-up in the most recent one as well, so we can't let him go. Get the wee 15 year old at RM in too on loan. What a front three behind the striker, with Isco and Mata to rotate.

Wee buns, I tell you.
