Watching the game Sunday it was amazing to count the number times Jones gave away the ball, city allowed him time to pass but he gave it away almost every time. Smalling can pass but Jones is not up to it.

Agree3 Disagree2

Anyone got his passing stats? I think he was a lot better than you seem to think.

80% pass accuracy, 74 touches, 12 clearances and 5 interceptions for Jones

80% pass accuracy, 59 touches, 7 clearances and 2 interceptions for Smalling.

Not as bad as you are saying at all.

Stats, stats, stats what a lot of BS. It comes down to where the player passed badly, the moment of the interceptions, in what type of situation the clearances were made and in what scenario he was on the ball.

Stats, stats, stats what a lot of BS.

Just had a look at Hummels passing, and defensive stats after seeing this and Jones is better than him in nearly every department. For a centre back who is considered a ball player Hummels passing stats are not very good at all. Hummels has a pretty low figure for interceptions too which can be explained by his lack of pace. Hummels may not be the upgrade we all think, maybe the grass isn't greener!

Thanks databass, always good to find out when someone just has an agenda against one player. Frustrates me when I see somebody try something good at the game and I say good effort some people just slag them off for it.

hummels is one of the best ball playing cb out there.
his passing really is first rate , he is also a much better cb than jones.

no matter what stats say

GDS why does someone always have to have an agenda? Maybe redcon is just saying what he seen and felt? Personally I don't think Jones was terrible but he wasn't fantastic. I have seen him play much worse.

Again to Rewz and everyone else don't read too much into stats because they are BS. Stats would tell us that Dave Nugent is Englands most prolific striker with a goal per game ratio of 100 per cent.

Think Jones played one of his best games in a United shirt actually. He maybe hasn't had many good games, but as he said he and Smalling hasn't played more than a handfull of games together. Yes he had some mistakes, but he also had some great moments stopping city, and it did a lot for his confidence.
Think he will improve a lot over the next few weeks.

JMB,

Nobody said there was an agenda, don't put words in my mouth, I said what I think.

Some stats are more useful than others, the OP said Jones gave the ball away 'almost every time' when in fact he didn't as 80% of his passes were successful, so that stat is a fairly sensible one to use in this debate, you can't say people can never use stats to back up an argument because they are BS, facts and stats are the basis of most arguments.
