I personally am happy with Van Gaal. I think he is perfect for us for another couple of years and will leave us in a much better position than he joined us in. A d with a couple of trophies in the cabinet.
Anybody who thinks he should have come straight in, got us playing brilliant football and challenging for everything in sight straight away is very naive.
It doesn't work like that, takes time to get everybody on board with what he wants, would for any manager. He has kept us competitive and playing for each other as a team through a difficult, low on confidence post saf and moyes period.
Getting in the top 4 will be a success this season as it could all so easy have been that we missed out again. It is massive, and then next season it's about challenging again.
Many on here seem to think that because we are Manchester United or because we have started throwing money at the problem we should win everything in sight. It's nonsense!

Good post .

Van Gaal was always going to take time due to the way he gets his team to play. It is very difficult getting a bunch of footballers to use their brain and play intelligently in just a few weeks.

Will Red,

Absolutely spot on, I have been trying to get a lot of them points across for a while but seem to be struggling, I pretty much agree with everything in that post.

I have seen a few people say 'We are Manchester United so we should be winning x, y and z' but it really doesn't work like that, in a few years we may be back on top financially but at the moment there are other teams who have been throwing money at it for a lot longer than we have, one in particular who are 2 points above us and going to win the same amount as us this season despite spending consistently for a long time now.

I also saw a post saying LVG came in because he can just make it work straight away, he shouldn't need time because he is LVG, which is also a load of rubbish, of course he needed time, he has never managed in the league before and that has been obvious for a while. Fingers crossed this form continues, the summer brings in the correct players and by September we are all expecting a title challenge.

I agree. Added to the fact that this is admittedly his last job, I expect he will not want to go out with a wimper. What will probably be more important is what happens after he goes. Clubs have historically tended to do quite well after he has left including the maturing of a good structure and youth set up. It's all pretty much in place but if he can add his experience to our club it will only benefit us in the long term I believe.

I know you have GDS, I suppose there will always be positive and negative fans no matter how well or badly we are doing.
I just think that say we had drawn with Spurs and lost to Liverpool like many on here and other so called football experts elsewhere were so sure of then we would be in such a bad position, low on confidence and the manager perhaps rightly so would be getting slated from all angles.
We are however now looking nailed on for 4th (minimum), very high on confidence and all more optimistic about out future again after 2 great wins and at times great performances in arguably our 2 hardest and certainly most important games up to now this season. Not to give the manager any credit for that seems ridiculous to me.
Obviously there is still work to be done and we still need to improve, but some on here have said we have missed a great opportunity to win the league this year. I couldn't disagree more with that, it was never going to happen this year and I think some people need a reality check. I will be happy if we keep some sort of form up and finish top 4 this season (2nd be better) and I know I'm not the only one.
Next season however we should all expect nothing less than the quadruple! :-)

He said he needed three months. Maybe that's why some people were annoyed. They actually believed him.

Mpez we are 4th two points of second one team in the league has lost less games than us up to yet he must be doing something right with all these so called realy bad players

Very good point Noucamp!

31 Mar 2015 07:50:27
Noucamp, I thought he said it has taken him around 3 months at previous clubs? I don't recall him ever saying, it would take him 3 months at Man Utd, maybe I'm wrong?

Or did he say at least 3 months? because there is a difference there
