Just reading the papers etc., over the past 2 weeks, there has been a lot of articles linking us to Varane. Any basis for these stories?

All down to whether madrid can get their replacement in *. If not I can't see him leaving, especially to us, I think he'll probably end up at Chelsea replacing Terry and then partnering Zouma when he steps up.

I'd go for both Varane and Hummels to be honest and keep Smalling, Rojo and McNair/Blackett as back up. Jones isn't realistically going to make it and Evans isn't good enough.

Exactly what I would do Fresh.

Agree with Anon, Mourinho loves the lad and seemed to have a good relationship with him at Madrid who he brought there. I see him and Zouma being Chelsea's long term future center back pairing.
I don't see why Madrid would sell him though. He is believed to be behind Pepe in the starting line up and Pepe is getting on so I see him (Varane) getting more game time in the near future.
Id love to have him in our squad but if he does leave Madrid I see Chelsea being his desired Option.

Fresh, who we'd go for and who utd can get are two different things all together, the intersection is usually very few.

I would love Varane but I cannot see Madrid letting him go. Such a big reputation at such a young age brings with it a massive fee. £40million or thereabouts I reckon.

Jones' fall from grace has been spectacular, from comparisons to Duncan Edwards, then to John O'shea and now people don't even see him as a squad/utility player.
Personally I still like the guy, he's young, had lots of injuries and I still think he can do well at our club. Only 2 years ago Fergie said he'd be the next England captain, you don't get that sort of praise for nowt'
