Over the past couple of years, one thing we have struggled with and looked vulnerable at was defending corners or set pieces against teams good in the air. At times we had to rely on someone like Fellaini to counter that threat.

At last we seem to be getting someone in Maguire who is not only strong in the air but also a physical presence. He is also a threat in the opposition box which is a great option to have.

Hope he really steps up and improves his game big time and proves a lot of his doubters wrong.

I hope more than anything that I am wrong, I don't want to see my club sign a player for a huge fee and for them to fail.

I don't think any true fan would want any signing of manager or even CEO fail at our club.

However, football is a game of opinions. I like many others having watched Maguire can see clear and obvious weaknesses in his game which could be exploited by our opposition. That's not to say that Maguire isn't a good player or that he won't improve us. Just people questioning whether he has the ability to lift us back to being able to compete for the biggest honours in football. Currently he doesn't have that ability, if he can step up and iron out the weaknesses in his game then great. However, I think it's dangerous and sets the lad up to fail if people start proclaiming him to be some sort of massiah who'll single handedly solve all our defensive issues.

I don't think anybody expects maguire or in fact any of our signings to be a messaih or for anybody to single handedly to lift is to the title.
Our squad has been poor and unbalanced for some time with glaring gaps and deficiencies. For example for the 1st time in 6 years we will have full backs on both sides that are not wingers.
We have been devoid of pace. James and rashford will address that.
We have been easy to score against at set pieces.

I keep asking the question if maguire is so poor and so slow why has he not been at fault for loads of goals for england or Leicester? How many goals have Leicester conceded directly because of his awful positioning and lack of pace. He is rarely exposed for his lack of pace and Leicester have only conceded 1 goal that i can find due to him losing the ball on one of his mad dribbles. Yes he has flaws name me a lower risk option.

Price aside (i ignore the prices they are all mental i get the argument we also need to sign more so it limits budget ) i think he is a good signing. Strengthens areas where we are weak.
He is not a vvd or varane but he will do well at United.

Maguire is a better player than lindelof.

Wouldn't a shot at Alderweireld for 25mil be a better bet and sign one of Nikola Milenkovic or Ruban Dias as well? We'll have depth and experience in the squad. I'm not in favor of Maguire but will support him if we sign him. I just can't understand why when Alderweireld was 60mil we wanted to sign him but a year later we don't want to spend 25mil on him.

Ruben Dias looks like he will be a quality player. If we haven't bid for him, we are missing out on a gem of a player.

Agree Ken.
First time we are seeing specialist players being signed.
AWB massively improves RB.
A proper winger in James who helps in counter attack. He does his defensive duties as well.
Signing Maguire will also move Lindelof to his favored right side CB role.
All in all, with each signing, the balance of our squad is improving.

Shappy,
My first choice CB was Koulibaly. But we never know how players from other league adapt.
I heard that Maguire has high work ethic, does extra work on his techniques post training.
We need such players for the rebuilding who sets example for others.
He will be entering his prime years now.
