Looks like it'll be Maguire in. Hopefully we can get behind him, it's no doubt he is an upgrade on what we have (bar Lindelof) . Maguire is good on the ball and is a presence in both boxes.

Already seeing people being critical of this deal, but let's not forget that it means Lindelof can move back to the proffered eighth centre back role, and he did that right at the start of oles reign and he looked excellent.

Is Maguire worth the money? No, no one is. But he is an upgrade, and Will hopefully have a positive impact.

He will walk straight into our starting 11.
And would be a big aerial threat on both the boxes.
He is progressing steadily every year, and he will be entering his peak years now.

If we sign Maguire then I'll be fully behind him (someone will need to be to cover for the gaps he leaves in defence when he wanders off up field) . Seriously though he would get my backing.

However, I would still have concerns. He is better than what we have had Lindelof. However, a six year old asthmatic with twiglets for legs is better than what we have at CB.

Is he good enough for where we want to be? Would he dislodge VvD at Liverpool or Laporte at City? Would he be first choice for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus or Bayern Munich?

That is the level we should be aspiring to and he doesn't lift us to that level as he isn't at that level.

He will need to step up and really improve the glaring weak areas of his game if he is to be a great signing. Especially at the projected cost.

I see several people defend him by saying Pep wanted him, but did he, it certainly doesn't appear that he wanted him enough to really push for him. Plus didn't Pep want Fred and Sanchez? Are we going to complete the golden trio of pipping Pep to a third signing only for them to be woefully disappointing? They do say it comes in threes.

We will need to get behind all of the signings. However, Maguire is one I feel many will look back on and all things considered will think he failed.

unfortunately we are not at the level you are mentioning. We are at the level we are currently at which is not champions league level. So Maguire is suitable for the level we are aiming to be at at the moment.

{Ed002's Note - Coll that MU have taken a player off one of their rivals though.}

I personally am happy at the deal, I watched VVD at Celtic and Southampton and thought he was good, just not quite good enough. Two years ago we would have taken the piss if we bought him for £75 million, now look at him, Slabhead could do the same. I know he might be another Jones, but imagine if he was another VVD and just needed the platform?
