Sat here on a beach in Spain and all the talk is of Eric Abidal quoting Cryuff, "He who hesitates for Barcelona is no use to us". Asked a few locals and apparently this was in reference to de Ligt who is now off the PSG.

He's an idiot if he goes there. I never expected him to come to United. But PSG over Barca? Unfathomable.

How is it unfathomable? Its been widely reported there were three main issues: playing time, financial package and champions league football.

PSG are the only club that can offer all three to him.

Because he'd be on minimum wage at Barca?

He'd have champions league and regular game time there as well.

PSG makes a lot of sense when you consider his agent. Mino is known for regularly moving his clients around, obviously for him that makes sense as he makes money from players moving.

That's why it makes no sense for him to move a player who is 19 to either Barcelona or Real Madrid. As players don't move from those clubs until their career is on the downward trajectory.

Which with a player such as De Ligt at 19 isn't likely to be for 10 years at least. For Riola it makes much more sense to park De Ligt at another club such as PSG, one of the English clubs or Juventus for the next 3-4 years then move him to one of the big Spanish clubs.

Or am I too cynical?

It always amazes me that people buy into the Barcelona mythos that when players reject them it’s down to some moral deficiency on part of the player.

DSG is completely right. Any sensible player would be looking to get the best deal for them. If he’s motivated by maximising his wage, so what? Isn’t that what most of us do when job hunting?

No he won't be on minimum wage at Barcelona but he will most likely be on the maximum wage available at psg. Add in champions league and guaranteed playing time. Therefore it is not unfathomable mort.

{Ed002's Note - You all need to stop talking money.}

It's funny to hear the Barcelona fans here, complaining about the clubs transfer policy, saying it's a shambles and other clubs are so much better organised. Nice to know we are not alone.

I wonder if there is much of a difference in your lifestyle between earning £10 million and £15 million a year?

Anybody know anything about that?
