Having watched the legends match today it made me realise that the team of 99 had two qualities that our current team does not. Firstly huge desire to win every ball (personified by seeing three Bayern players try and fail miserably to get the ball off him) and secondly the guile and instinctive understanding of how and when to switch play with long crossfield passes.

That's been the best performances at Old Trafford so far this season. Stam, Neville, Scholes and Beckham would walk into this current team.

Salford, this is something Wolves have done all season to great affect (switching the ball) . They did it against us in the FA Cup and out lazy players had no interest in shuffling across to the other side of the pitch. It’s an old tactic that still works well for teams with good passes of the ball, which Wolves have lots of.

In the 90’s we used to have Becks and Giggs hugging the touchline with Scholes pinging it around. It’s great to watch. Becks wasn’t too bad with that right foot either.

Mort alas you are right because very often our current team does little more than walk. Wazza wasn't it sad to see how far we have fallen. We get more enjoyment watching a team of players who with the greatest respect are passed it (delib misspelt past) than the current crop.

Stam was a unit at the back. When he walked Janker and Ze Reberto out of the box by the hand it was hillarious.
Scholesy still can't tackle.
Dennis Irwin, still a great player.
David May, the striker I want to be.
Cant beleive I got to watch the great Kevin Pilkington either. What a day.

I don't know how people watched that game, it was just sad and depressing to watch. solskjaer has scored same number of goals yesterday as sanchez did the entire season, staam is a better cb than anyone we have bar lindelof, beckham put in more accurate crosses in 1 game than ashley young did in an entire season. Also we scored 5 at OT for the first time since 2016 when we did it against midgetland.

Csm,

Because it was a great day and really enjoyable, we scored 5 because Bayern had a 58 year old centre back, none of them players would get into the current squad as they are too old and slow hence when they were moved on originally, but it was great fun to see them playing. Lighten up, football is meant to be a hobby, if you couldn’t enjoy that yesterday maybe football isn’t for you.

CSM you get a bit over emotional at times. I joked that team are better than our current crop but let’s not pretend for a second there’s any truth in it. Our current team would run rings round them through fitness alone.

It’s ok to enjoy a fixture like yesterday for what it is. A celebration.

GDS it was wonderful watching them, but you are not telling me that as a utd fan it isn't a depressing fact that a team of 40 and 50 year olds manages to play better than our current team.

Wazza i am sure jones and rojo are fitter than staam, but given their injury proneness i doubt they will last any longer on the pitch than stam would.
