Imagine if we had Phil Neville as manager?

He'd bring in:

Bale - who hasn't played consistently well, or remained fit, for years, and would cost close to £100m

Couthino - who Barcelona are desperately trying to flog because he isn't good enough.

Dier - who has fallen right down the Spurs pecking order because an average midfielder who can also put in a shift as an average defender isn't really that great.

Varane - who has given zero indication that he would go to us.

Cancelo - who just moved to one of the top sides in Europe.

We'd win the league next season with Phil's bold ideas.

The problem here is that probably is ed woodwards list of bringing in players as well.

Felix, koulibaly, rb and douglas costa should be players we should go for.

I’d steer well clear of Douglas Costa. Inconsistent, and relies on his pace which at his age will start to decline. Juve are trying to move him on because he hasn’t performed for them in a much less competitive league. Same reason Bayern moved him on. The only reason we would sign him is that Woodward is easily taken in by agents trying to earn a quick buck.

I'd be happy with a summer of Doherty (Wolves RB), Koulibaly, Rice and Sancho.

Personally with the wages DDG is wanting I think now would be the time to say thank you for your service and goodbye and really invest in our defence. Promote Romero and with a solid back 4 we shouldn't be losing much defensively with a slight downgrade on GK but large upgrade on defence.

If we can get Sanchez and Pogba of the wages too that would be good also and keep hold of Herrera.

Ports, if there's one player that deserves to be the highest paid at the club it's De Gea. His form has dipped this year but he's been outstanding the last 6 seasons.

I think we can all agree that we need at least 4 players. But I think the board will go with cheap option and hire Ole, spent big on one player and let OGS talk about how this is the best squad he's ever had, and the promise of youth.

We don't know who are manager will be. How can you plan for next season?

Couldn’t care less who comes or goes as i’ll still love UTD.

For a supposed financial wizard Woody is gullible. I've heard he's been spotted at car boots trying to sell on some beans he brought off a guy one day.

It’s a common thought amongst us on here that we would ideally like Utd to make 4 new signings for next season. Those being a CB, RB, RW and CM.

This can be very difficult as it is increasingly more difficult to get clubs to agree to sell players.

In addition to this Utd need to offload some “Dead Wood” first. Ideally Rojo, Valencia, Darmian, Jones and Sánchez but they may not all go and there could be a risk that Herrera leaves and then there is the issue of De Gea and Pogba.

For me if we could at least sign a quality RB and CB and move on 3 or 4 defenders listed above I would be content.

This would hopefully give us a solid defence which would stabilise the team and able Utd to push on.

I hope for more comings and goings but am just trying to be realistic about how complex these issues are to resolve.

Koulibaly is not good enough. Ditto Costa. Pay whatever it takes to keep De Gea as he saves us a lot of points each season and at his age his best is still to come. Keepers mature later. I like Romero but De Gea can make the difference at a crucial moment like very few keeps can. Schmeichel Van Der Saar and now De Gea are three of the best keepers ever. Build from a strong foundation is the way to win titles.

Mumbles, not disagreeing with that but what about the next player who deserves it to be then on par with DDG. The wages keep increasing and players will demand more and more. We have a small chance to regain some structure regarding wages if we act now but if we give DDG what he wants then we are stuck with paying huge wages. I love DDG, best in the world but if we can get 2 top quality players for his supposed demanded wages we would be better off strengthening that way IMO.

Pretty sure I read that Woodward was going away from Douglas Costa and was more interested in Costa Coffee due to the marketing side of things.
