Is it so outrageous to think Ole could get the job permanently?

A significant part of management is relationships with players. He motivates, he inspires and he makes them happy. With good coaches around him like big Mick Phelan then we have the perfect set up. In my opinion the manager doesn't have to be all things to all men. Sir Alex wasn't, he often didn't even run training.

No, its not. To me he is the man. He loves the club and judging by our first half today he can outsmart one of the best current managers in world footy so i would love it if he is given the job permanently.

Before the Spurs game I'd have said it's impossible and not to get swept up in the short term 'new bounce' effect BUT I have to say tactically he seems far more competent that I gave him credit for. Gary Neville's comments were bang on, he watched where Liverpool got joy vs spurs then adapted our formation (trained it on the Dubai break) and used a diamond and split strikers to great effect to get the lead. That is legitimate managerial nouse and combined with the players really digging in for him 2nd half its a good combination. If he gets us into top 4 and wins a trophy (big ask i know) then i think you have to seriously consider giving it to him.

Other big clubs aren't as shy to appoint new (less experienced) managers - Zidane at Real anyone? Ole coached at man U, earned his stripes about albeit not at the highest level - learned a harsh lesson at Cardiff and so forth so maybe cometh the hour cometh the man.

I'd still take Poch if available but not that many others over Ole as things stand.

Funny old game football.

{Ed0333's Note - I said the same a few games ago and got laughed at on this page.

I can't see any other alternative now then him being made permanent. If we win our next two at home (winnable games) then that's 8 on the spin.

The huge plus would be that we can start planning for next season now! Sort out DDG, Martial and Herrera's contracts and start the recruitment process now.

Waiting to see does Ole not cut the mustard is dangerous.

Mike phelan is returning to Australia in the summer doesn't he have a job as a sporting director.

As it stands if we continue this way ole has to be given the job. Keep the coughing staff get a dof in and let's see what this team can do.

He’s definitely top of my list based on some of the names we have been linked in. Who the long term manager is does not interest me until we have the right DOF. Until this is addressed I believe the next manager is irrelevant.

Ole's relationship with the fans, players and Sir Alex could play a vital role.
He has the United DNA.
Also, he is not afraid to bench the established forward like Lukaku. He is bringing the best out of Pogba and Rashford as well.

Ole is in pole position now.

If Utd employ a suitable DoF and Ole maintains good coaching staff around him that know the Utd way then this could work long term.

Ole knows the defending is not good enough and he has commented on that several times already. Yesterday he said that we were panicking in the 2nd half and on occasions 2 players were going for the same ball.
Ole will not hesitate with youth and so this gives players like Chong, Gomes and Greenwood etc a real of making the squad for next season and beyond.

Such a turnaround in the mood and optimism around the club since he joined.

Poch has to be first choice. If we hit top 4 and give a decent account of ourselves in the cuos, then it has to be Ole.
Could Ole be the man to take a DOF role we keep talking about? He knows the club, the players, the board, the academy and he knows the day to day running of a club. Ole loves this club and would sell out of it to any potential signing. Ole has respect for what he acheived in the game and he is earning more and more each week at the minute. I suppose I'm being greedy and saying I want both Ole and Poch!

You can call me sentimental all day long if he keeps going the way he’s going 😊.

I wonder how he would perform with regards transfer targets or indeed if he'd even get much of a say in them. DOF really needed badly as that bridge between business side and 1st team but I guess it's key that the DOF can work well with the manager (as ED002 pointed out) . So what do we do first, figure out who's DOF then let him/ her have a say on the manager OR get a manager and select a DOF who's happy to work with that individual. It seems to be a catch 22 of sorts to me atm.
Definitely a brighter future though it would seem, I just hope we finally get it right and get some stability back.
