Ed002, if you have a minute mate. Manager compensation is always a fraction of what players cost. It always has been. Why all of sudden am I reading everywhere that Pochettino (if he were to come) will cost us £50/ 60 million quid?

Is it that we would have to negotiate with Spurs or would we have to buy out his contract? How does it work?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to the money but if Manchester United want to buy someone out of their contract, some clubs will demand full compensation. Why would Spurs be open to any sort of negotiation if Manchester United want to take their manager?}

Another question is: Would Poch want to join us?
Maybe or maybe not given that he could stay where he is and see what he is building comes into fruition.

I have no idea if Poch would want to come, but we should at least have a go at getting him as he is probably the standout candidate.

EPL proven.
Good at developing youngsters.
Plays entertaining football.
Friendly positive outlook which is good for PR.

Would he want to join? Or maybe more importantly would he want to leave Spurs?

There certainly is an argument that he is in a good place with Spurs, the total trust of the board, the backing of the fans, autonomy to make the team his own and a. great group of players.

However, there is also a train of thought that he might have hit the ceiling with Spurs. Can they go the next step? Can they replace players that are aging/ wanting to leave. Tripper has done well but he isn't as good as Walker. Rose wants to leave to move back up north, is Davies as good? Alderweireld might leave and Vertonghen has had injury issues over the last couple of years. Dembele will soon leave, Eriksen is wanted by several top European teams. With the move to the new stadium will Spurs have the money to attract and purchase the required quality of players to replace them?
If not then will Poch be able to elevate those players to achieve more than his current players?

If he feels he has taken Spurs as far as he can, and that there is a chance the team might regress if the level of investment isn't available to either keep Spurs where they are or move them forward. Then maybe a move while his stock is high is best. Maybe a new challenge is needed or wanted. Would he like to have the chance to restore United to former glory? He is a huge fan of Sir Alex so that could also be a motivator.

I guess we'll see next summer.

{Ed002's Note - You missed - Never won anything.}

I'm not suggesting for one minute that Spurs would do us a favour and let him leave for peanuts. But this is the first time iv heard such vast amounts for a managers compensation. I know you don't want to get into money but the estimated amount is 10 times larger than any compensation iv seen before. Obviously it's all speculation and I'm not privy to the actual amounts but it seems excessive is all.

They have to buy out his contract mumbles, he's just signed a 5 year contract at a high rate so it would add up to a lot. Generally when managers are poached it's from smaller clubs who aren't paying their managers that much so the compensation is much less.
