Would like fellow posters opinions about England please. I am delighted the team are going thought tonight but I have to say that I thought even apart from their thuggery for the most part Colombia were a poor team. Maybe it was the nerves or maybe they had too long to wait but to me it seemed a lot of the players seemed very tired and lacked energy tonight. Jesse was a perfect example of this second half as was Kane. Against a better team I think we may well have lost in extra time.
Secondly apart from set pieces we really didn't create much. Maybe Ali is still not fit but he didn't really get into the game. Sterling did try hard but he too is not on song. The problem is who do we have as potential replacements who can create something out of nothing? Also in the second half of normal time and nearly all of extra time there was to my mind far too big a gap between defence and the attack and we didn't keep the ball long enough. That's sad to win the way they did it was exciting and should give the players a lot of confidence.

To be honest hendon England haven't created as much as our scores suggest but it's not England's fault teams seem so scared of England's set plays, I've no idea why opponent's are turning England's set plays into scenes from WWE wrestling but they just keep doing it, it's beyond stupidity and we have had 3 pens but really should have had more in the tournament . They appear to be given warning only seconds before doing it by the refs . It's not England's fault if defenders are a bit thick .

Disappointed in Colombia. I thought they'd make more of a game of it. England pretty much controlled the game, apart from one lapse at a set-piece. After England scored, I thought it was a very mature performance. If that had been Germany or Italy seeing the game out, we'd all have been raving about how they saw the game out with minimum fuss.

Loving the sense of togetherness this squad has, it can take you along way. I don’t think Columbia are up to much and lookily they were without there main man tonight, fortunately Sweden are worse so we should make Semis then who knows what might happen 🤞. Deli Ali is a passenger right now and that can’t happen, the position Sterling is being asked to play does not get the best from him either so I wouldn’t mind seeing either of them replaced for the next game. Comon boys Bring It Home 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

I agree Noucamp that it was a mature performance but are you not concerned at the lack of clear cut chances we have created. I know I am.

I’m just really enjoying the atmosphere and vibe of this england team. Gareth Southgate is a really likeable guy and he has done a fantastic job in creating a great team spirit within the camp. Thought it was a mature performance today and unlucky that Colombia equalised. I just want to enjoy it and start believing that we can win it. Don’t care how we do it and don’t care if we are all getting carried away!

We’re in the quarter finals with a very young team. You can only beat who is put in front of you and the draw has fallen kindly for us. Let’s remember Iceland and realise how far this squad has come. Tougher games to come but it’s great to see such a team spirit and long may it continue.

We are in the QF. Job done by Southgate and with this team he’s done a great job. Anything else is a bonus now so enjoy the ride. It’s been a tremendous World Cup.

Totally agree with the general sentiment to enjoy the success and togetherness but we really do have the most wonderful chance to get to at least a semi final if a work cup. Team spirit carries you so far but I wish we really had more creativity. Going home on the tube last night after the match the happy faces of people contrasted starkly with the usual dour looks I see. Instead of people being silent they were chatting away. That's the power of football. I want this to continue throughout the country. I also don't want to think in years to come that we missed a golden chance to win the world cup because we used defeat to Iceland as our yardstick to define our future success. I want the team to really go for it. No fear.
