This Fellaini rumour has really baffled me. Looking at the midfield options we have Matic, Fred and Pogba who you'd imagine to be the main 3 to start and all Mourinho’s signings. McTominay who Jose gave his award to at the end of the season, Herrera who many would have as a potential starter and then Fellaini. Rumours are that we are still after a CM so that would be 7 into 3 with Fellaini, you would think and hope being at the bottom of the list. So this makes the potential renewal even more bizarre and to be honest, pointless. So what are the plans for Fellaini? Going to throw this one out there, what if Jose wants to use Fellaini as his back up striker? Tall, strong target man, if we are looking to get balls in the box from out wide to benefit Lukaku, Fellaini will benefit as well. He’ll hold the ball up and win flick ons for Sanchez and Lingard or the others? Will save money on looking for a back up striker as I don’t think Jose sees Martial or Rashford as that player! Just a thought because I cannot see any other reason for him being offered a contract! Baffling.

Hopefully this means the budget is spent on a RM, LB and CB.

We have plenty of CM's (of varying ability) so it makes business sense to keep hold of Fellaini rather than have to spend £30M on a backup player of similar ability in this market - considering we have already signed Fred - and use funds in areas where we are desperately short.

Not bad there, Ports. That idea actually makes some sense. Fellaini certainly has the back to goal part down.
