The population of Croatia is less than the population of Scotland, or indeed Ireland. Yet here they are heading into the last 16 of the World Cup.

However, the population gap is nothing when compared to England, or Iceland, the 2 absolute extremes. I’d love Iceland to progress and indeed they might!

They ware a team that play for each other where as Argentina are full of individual stars with huge egos.

I always cheered on the Argies. First World Cup I watched was 78, and I got their top. However, this is the worst team in my memory. Apart from Messi and Aguero, none of that starting 11 would get into one of the other major nations. Except maybe Dybala and he can't get a game. As someone who's always followed them, it's quite sad to see them so poor. I still backed Croatia at a ridiculous 3/ 1, so silver linings and all that.

They have a decent side, but it’s completely se up for Messi. When he doesn’t perform, they’re terrible. He’s been poor internationally for the last few years. I just don’t understand how a team of such limited resources can keep Huguine and a Dybala on the bench. Crying out for a 4-4-2. Two holding mids, Messi and Dybala (but they’d actually need to track back and play for the team) as narrow wide players and Hugine and Aguero up front. Can’t be worse than what we’ve seen in their last two games.

Their defence is terrible
Oatamendi is a bad defender.

Otaemendi deserved red today for that disgusting kick of the ball against Rakitic's head.

Di Maria, Messi, Aguero, Dybala forward line should be able to beat all the sides in the WC apart from Spain Germany and Brazil. But Danny is right, the team is set up for Messi and the supply line is not good enough from midfield.

I couldn't believe their line up. Some of the worlds best players and they field a team of practical no-marks. All the flailing around was doing my head in as well, as men and professionals they need holding to account!

Dybala, Banega, ADM, Higuain all should have been playing instead of the likes of Acuna, Meza, Perez, Salvio. Coach clearly has no idea what to do with the talent and they deserved what they got.

I think they genuinely miss a proper midfielder like Veron, Redondo or Riquelme. They've no one who can control the tempo of a match and there's no transition between the defence (which is shockingly poor) and the attack.

Becks,

Hit the nail on the head, and Croatia had in my opinion the greatest player in the world right now at controlling the tempo of a game in Modric. That was the difference, Argentina never had any control on the game because of him, great performance.

Gds2 I agree with you again.
Modric was the difference
There in with a chance of winning the world cup.

Once read somewhere that SAF was gutted when Modric didn't sign for us i think it was before he signed for Spurs . Quality and seems to be ageless like his teamate CR7😆😆.

Fully agree GDS2 and Leahy12 - Modric has been one of if not the best midfielder for the past 2/ 3 years.

Once you factor in gdp per capita vs england. Makes the disparity even starker.
