I would also still support him.

Would rather him than mourinho if I'm honest, he's the only manager out there more arrogant than lvg.

You're in the majority. You, along with fans of 19 premier league clubs.

Moon, I support what he's doing. The squad, club structure and youth systems needed a complete rebuild. The youth review and restructure is underway, there has been a restructure within the playing side of the club and the team has been ripped up with the removal of most of the old guard. I've said it before, he may not be what most want but he's what we needed. If he stays I think the football will be much better next year as he'll have a far more balanced team. He's spoken about the right forward, he's spoken about more pace and creativity in the middle. With 4-5 players we have the makings of a great team.

It looks like the club of going all out for younger, exciting player which is exciting.

Should lvg maybe spend less time restructuring the youth etc, leave that to the people whos job it is and concentrate on the first team.

Our u21s are better to watch than the first team.
Did we not only need 4 players last summer.

Rewz - With 4 or 5 great players pretty much every team in the world would have the makings of a great team!

I'm not sure in what world playing some of the most boring football most of us have ever seen at the top level is 'what's needed'; nor do I think that LVG is suddenly going to abandon the philosophy that he's been playing with for his entire career (let alone the past two years) next season.

Some people thought that performances would improve after the first three months once the manager had had a chance to instill his philosophy in the players. They didn't.

Some people thought that performances would improve after the first season was over and the manager had had three transfer windows to build the squad that he wanted. They didn't.

Some people thought that performances would improve after the Christmas period where he nearly lost his job and the fans made it clear that performances were not good enough. They didn't.

That some people STILL think that performances are going to improve is really beyond my comprehension. Let me save you the suspense all the same though. They won't.

Half a team short of great doesn't seem close enough.
If I go to the pub I don't settle for less than a full pint.

Rebuilding the first team whilst maintaining league position was always going to result in pragmatic football. The managers role is that of the entire footballing side of the business. He was obviously asked to rebuild the lot.

The team needs 4-5 players, it looks like we have changed our recruitment strategy going for the top youth players playing senior football. The squad of players we have lacks both quality and balance, we do t have a right winger, we don't have a quality 10 we don't have decent CB's.

Moon what are your thoughts on the tactics? I feel we play the way we do to paper over our weaknesses, for example offering to much protection to the cb's stifling creativity. Every time we play more attacking football they get opened up.

I'm kinda with you on this moon. Maybe I'm just less demanding when it comes to football. but overall I can see the job he had on his hands when he came in. I think pragmatic is a good word. Plus its a short term deals and whoever comes in after either this summer or next will be better off.

He has spent 300+ mill and bought 14 players and some would say we are still as unbalanced and lacking players .
We do have a right winger its mata or linders lvg is happy to play either there, which is why he does and why he never bought a rw .
He wanted pace and creativity which is why he bought depay . Not really worked out .

As for protecting the cbs? Our cm of late has been 3 man with rooney and carrick and an acm of either wig linders or mata .
Also 2 of our best players have been smalling and blind

The team, like lvg teams for the last 15 year are possesion based and pragmatic, its why he was sacked at munich after 2 year . For finishing 4th and playing as the munich ceo said anti football.

Also mangers come and go, the youth is a long term project that the club tends to look after.

Mata isn't a RW and Lingard isn't of the required quality, Wig doesn't suit possession football and Rooney has only just moved into CM. The squad lacks balance.

The CB's have been solid but I would suggest that's because the team is set up to protect them, every time we try a more attacking game they get found out.

Recruitment doesn't just fall on LVG, the clubs recruitment strategy was poor. It lacked focus, instead targeting names like ADM and Mata. The Moyes -> LVG transition resulted in some poor recruitment.

After the Moyes season and looking at the squad anyone could see the size of the rebuild, it was and still is a massive task. It needed a very experienced head who would be willing to make the hard decisions with 600m+ critics breathing down their neck expecting instant success. Signing LVG on three years just before he retires was a perfect fit, unfortunately the we as fans have no sense of reality and certainly have no patience.
