Rumour today is we are looking at signing toni kroos in January. I'd be quite happy with that, still a very good player with a lot of experience which the team is short of.

Kroos is a good player, however I'd take any rumour with a grain of salt. Seems to me that the club are putting out this info to try and appease the fanbase. In reality Ed won't sign anyone of any note. Same old BS when they don't have to backup the talk with action.

I know he has a lot of experience and we definitely lack that but him and rakitic (another linked player) also have a lack of pace. Which is already a major problem in midfield would also want a mass wages to join something i really hope we steer clear of.

Terrible signing. Lazy player.

They seem to be getting in the excuses early with the PR they have been spewing the past few days. Mail had utd buying 5 new shiny old players in the summer. Woodward thinks we are all thick.

Got one of the worst midfields in the PL and people still turn there nose up at a player who would instantly improve it and would be a good addition for 2 or 3 years while we rebuild.

{Ed047's Note - especially if you got rid of that lazy over rated clown Pogba.

What is it with pace and central midfield. It’s nonsense. The best midfielders dictate the pace and control the game. None of which we have. Kroos/ Rakitic are 100% improvement on anything we have.

Nobody mentioned pace. Kroos is lazy though. Also he's the kind of signing that would struggle to make an instant impact.

I think Kroos would be too slow for the premier league. A little bit like Fabrigas was when he played for Chelsea. I understand the argument that Kroos will improve the midfield but are we not sick and tired of the big name players being drafted in short term to try and fix a mess . They usually end in the player being on extortionate wages and declining rapidly. I cannot see how Kroos would be any different.

Lads I don’t think we are in any position to turn down a player of the quality as Toni Kroos. The right midfield partners and he would flourish. I think he is capable of playing like pirlo did in his later career.

Kroos is a very good player, and he is certainly better than what we have.

But that doesn't mean he would be a good signing. Di Maria and Falcao were better than what we had. Sanchez was better than what we had. Schweinsteiger was better than what we had.

Signing older players, who are moving from a top side and looking for a last big pay day haven't worked out well for us in the past.

Kroos is a great player, yet Madrid are struggling in La Liga with him as their key central midfielder. He has Modric and Casemiro alongside him BOTH probably better than what he would be playing with if he move to us.

IF he is struggling with better players in a league not as competitive as the EPL then how do you think he would cope if we signed him?

Rakitic has a bad reputation and a questionable attitude to say the least. Again a player better than what we have but probably not a good fit for our club.

Both I think would struggle in the whirly burly world that is midfield in the EPL. Both are also used to playing in a 3 man midfield rather than a 2 man double pivot. Which again would likely expose their lack of mobility and pace all the more.

Kroos makes Matic look like Kante in the mobility department. Fantastic passer of the ball, but you could probably draw a ten yard circle around him and count on one hand the number of times he leaves the circle in 90 minutes.

Is that not exactly what you'd want though shappy? to play alongside pogba and having a deep midfield player with bags of energy, mctominay for now. Kroos's quality is unquestionable and pogba is better higher up the pitch where he can make those runs he makes. I'm not saying this will sort the midfield for years to come but it would I think at least help the forwards get chances. I agree with the point about players coming from teams such as Madrid and youd hope the desire was still there. If attainable I do think he would be a very good addition.

Watched him for Germany against us a few weeks ago, and he was pretty anonymous. When you have opposition players harrying him, he struggled to make an impact. If he has time, his passing is second to none, but I doubt he'd have that luxury in the EPL.

GD, as Stevie says above he is an excellent player until he is marked and harried out of a game. That doesn't happen as much in La Liga as it would in the EPL.

Veron was arguably one of the best midfielders in the world when he joined us. Yet he never managed to settle into life in midfield in the EPL. He also showed his class again when he left England and went back to Italy.

I would put Kroos in the same boat, great player, but ultimately one I don't think is suit to the league we play in.

Think of all the great midfielders you can think of to have played in the EPL.

Now how many of them lacked mobility?

You can get away with a lack of pace and even a lack of strength. But you will not get away with a lack of mobility in midfield in the EPL.

Yeah the Premier league is completely different I suppose but I'd still love to see him in a utd shirt.

I remember when I was sure he was signing and he ended up at Madrid and I was gutted because he was so good and him and modric for 3 years were so so good in that midfield.

GD, I think that's the point. How much of his performances at Real Madrid have been because he has Modric playing alongside him.

For me Modric is the player we missed out on.

And you can see at Real Madrid now. Kroos's decline is mimicking that of Modric's when he is 3-4 years younger than Modric and should now be the player stepping up as Modric declines.
