So apparently the player West Ham wanted in a deal for Diop was Martial.

I'd take 50m + Diop for him.

Yep good luck convincing martial to go to west ham and for them to pay anywhere near what he currently earns.

What is peoples obsession with selling all our players? Are we going to do trials to replace them.

Im not 'obsessed with selling all our players'. Someone posted yesterday West Ham wanted a play in exchange for Diop and I saw a rumour that it was Martial. It's a rumour site after all.

All I said was I would happily take a big fee + a good CB for him.

It's not like Martial has set the world alight for us anyway.

Martial has just signed a new contract, imagine how much United would have to pay him if they decided to sell him .

Who are you going to realistically replace him with that has produced more than he has since he joined?

Pepe has only had one good season and even then his goal tally is boosted by penalties and an easier league.

Zaha has never matched martials goal tally in any season for palace.

Joao felix looks to be off elsewhere and would cost a small fortune.

Jaden sancho won't be joining us this season as we are currently a shambles

Is alexis sanchez going to step up and replace him, good luck he's scored as many goals for chile as he has for us since he joined.

Is daniel james going to take the huge leap from championship to prem.

I think you're reading into this as if I want to sell Martial.

All I said was I wouldn't be upset to lose him if we got a good offer + player.

He has a good goal record for us yes, but his attitude stinks and he's not exactly our hardest working player, always looks disinterested when on the pitch.

I look at how Mane and Sterling perform for their teams and I can't help but think that Martial could do as well if he actually had the motivation to.

DSG,
I would sell everyone of our players that aren’t facing in the same direction as the club, everyone of them.
Can any of the Eds confirm whether any ‘values’ based assessment is done prior to signing any players? It is a growing trend in other industries, it’s seriously something our club needs to start doing.

{Ed002's Note - No, but some clubs only want intelligent players that won't cause any issues on or off the field.}

That is a fair point with mane and sterling and their motivation and energy.

But they are also helped by being in a settled side with a distinct way of playing, if they were parachuted into our team they would likely face the same struggles martial has.

If ole is serious about introducing a more offensive style then i feel it is a style that will suit martial and he would excel even more. Same goes for rashford as well.

The problem with Martial is his attitude.
There is significant change in his gameplay before and after signing the new contract.
He is not bothered to put enough effort.

I really hope so, I would love to see Martial and Rashford succeed at United but I'm not banking on it.

I seem to recall that Fergie used to say that he would always pay as much importance to a players character and family upbringing as to his talent as a player. Shame this is not always the case now.

{Ed002's Note - That is when they were all from the cobbled rat infested streets of Northern England.}

Martial will be here next season. The most we can hope for is significant improvement in his attitude and play.
Jose was able to turn shaw around eventually maybe ole can do the same with martial.
The lad has talent its his football intelligence understanding and workrate that is lacking imo.
Jred is spot on the cost of paying him off without a transfer request is prohibitive to letting him go.
Ed002 confirmed he has been made available but no takers he is way too expensive for what he produces for most clubs and none of those clubs want him.
Our best option is probably to give him another season if he flops then i'd suggest cutting our losses and moving him on.
Can he turn potential into actual performances the ball is in his court.

Ed002, a tad harsh, don’t you think?

{Ed002's Note - No, that was the time when they were brining in young kids. Busby did the same.}

After briefly searching for reviews and player profiles about Diop, he looks a really promising defender: great in the air and tackle, decent passing and good awareness.

Only weaknesses are improving longer passes out to full backs and rash decisions, which would probably improve with maturity.

Comes across as a non-nonsense defender who would really complement Lindelof. Before WH, Barcelona etc were interested in him. Always been a captain too, so would show leadership at the back.

TBH. I’d swap Martial for Diop. He reminds me of a young Ferdinand. Martial hasn’t blossomed like we hope, whereas Diop looks quality and will instant improve our back line.
