Reports that shaw could be putting pen to paper on a 5 year deal soon.

Are 8/ 9 games enough to earn that contract?

Or is just to keep his value high. Admittedly i am pleased he has started the season well when at times its looked his career at united could have over but am still not convinced he's the long term answer at the position.

hes still very young and has been one of the positives this season

i would be happy with him signing a new 5 year deal.

He's spent a good chunk of his time at the club injured or stuck in the reserves, so I think it's fair to give him a new contract after his recent spell of form. If in 3 years from now there is still no real improvement he will most likely be gone.

He had a shakey first season when it could be said he was adapting to being at a club our size. He then went away and trained hard over the summer and at the start of his second season he was our best player until he got injured. He then struggled for a couple of years to fully over come the injury and deal with the change in management. He has up until now probably been our best player this season.

So I think it's clear the potential is still there and he can realise that here with us. Why let him leave, especially on the cheap. He is an England international and we need to keep good quality homegrown players especially when they can perform to level where they are regularly our best player.

We'd be stupid not to give him long term contract.

The issue for me is, why have we let the contracs of so many players run down.

Going to be a very good player.

He's one of the ones we should be looking to extend along with Mata, Herrera and de Gea. The rest can go for free or buttons.

Had a great season so far. He deserves a new contract imo. He has been doing and saying the right things all season. One of the few who is actully full of praise for the manager in fact. There has been a full turn around in his form and his confudence and he looks fit and raring to go. If he keeps his form and fitness it will be a big plus for the team.
