Hey 002, how are you fixed for a quick and dirty run through of Man Utd targets for summer and possible sales?

{Ed002's Note - In terms of interest we know of, it is something like this:

GK – we will have to wait and see

Alvaro Odriozola (RWB) - won't leave Spain, may not be a need for an addition this summer

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - but may need to fend off an offer of a new deal from Spurs, Manchester City and Real Madrid
Raphael Varane (CB) - it drags on rather but Real Madrid may be willing to let him leave this summer for the right price as part of their major rebuild programme – so might be possible
Samuel Umtiti (CB) – a maybe right now although another English side who have enquired have been told he is negotiating a new deal - if that can't be agreed we will see, but Barcelona won't sell before they have a replacement and that is proving to be financially difficult – player is proving to be a real pain in the neck
David Lopez (CB) - do not rule him out - Mourinho will wait and remains keen
Don’t rule out a move for an English CB to keep the balance

Danny Rose (LB) – I expect an offer to be made
Faouzi Ghoulam (LB) - risky after ACL injury
Aaron Martin (LB) – liked by JM
Alex Sandro (LB) – keeps running hot and cold with Juve but they have a replacement in mind so could push to the top of the list
Philipp Max (LB) – would be a great pick but unlikely
Kieran Tierney (LB) – not first team material for MU at this time, liked but unlikely

Jorginho (CM/DM) – player wants MC
Casemiro (DM) – a JM favourite
Fabinho (DM) - not first choice – doubtful

Toni Kroos (M) wanted by JM but not by the club – but JM may get his way
Arturo Vidal (CM) – age/price makes him unlikely but JM likes him
Jean Michael Seri (M) – I would strike him from the list – talking to another PL side
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (CM) – could be priced out of a move
Fred (CM) - alternative to SMS and Kroos

Isco (AM) – depends on RM coach staying or going, serious interest from elsewhere

Christian Pulisic (RW) – very doubtful and a position that is not pressing

Gareth Bale (LW) - Will be offered to Manchester United but I think could be priced out of a move when his injuries are taken in to account - and he will have another option in England
Jose Arnaiz (LW) - viable option, don’t lose sight of him
Marco Asensio (LW) - unlikely because if he leaves he will likely be heading elsewhere and he is very, very pricey
Ivan Perisic (LW) - Manchester United could yet return although he has been struggling a little for form of late

Robert Lewandowski (S) - player wants Real Madrid but they may look first to other options – but not a pressing need right now

Out - perhaps:
Anthony Martial
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (had to leave before end of March)
Chris Smalling
Phil Jones
Matteo Darmian
Luke Shaw

Great choices there . i'd go with Sandro, Umtiti or Alderweireld, , Jose Arnaiz looks like he might have a lot to prove as he isn't getting game time at Barcelona so will be hungry for success ans i wouls go for Kroos as it seems Pogba will be staying.

As a dm i would go for Casemiro he could be a really good option for us.

Thanks Ed, very interesting to see.

Considering the good ones that the ed says are less likely, the ones he says are more likely don't really fill me with great positivity.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

Did I read right that RB/ RWB might not be a priority? If so, disappointing.

CB - definitely need a solid and consistent one. Toby Alder would be great, prem proven, but can we really get him and rose from Spurs?

LB - Danny rose is injury prone and hasn't played well for like a year, and will be well overpriced.
Alex Sandro has disappointed me in every champs league games I've watched him in, nothing like a 50-60m fullback.
Aaron Martin for me.

DM - Casimiero is good. Would take him. Matic will only get worse next season i reckon so I think we need a more dynamic holding mid.

CM - Kroos wouldn't give our midfield the transformation it needs. In fact we might find he'd compound our existing issues. And as a big name he'd cost a bomb.
Vidal prob too old to sign now for the type of player he is, though he would definitely improve us short term.
SMS probably the only one out of the entire list worth breaking the bank for.
Fred would be a v good signing I believe.

None of the attacking options there are ideal/ viable in my view, apart from Arnaiz maybe. Bale and Perisic are big no's for me.

Sounding a bit negative but have to admit I'm struggling a bit.

Thanks Ed much appreciated. Frankly though I am rather underwhelmed by most of the players you mentioned. Yes they are generally very good players but fee are what I would term truly world beaters. You can be sure City will strengthen and even if they didn't I don't think the players you named would make City quake in their boots. Additionally City are by and large a young team who will only grow stronger together.

{Ed002's Note - You have to have players who fit in the team and four of these are players MC are interested in.}

Thanks Ed

Any of the three CBs would be great additions. As for an English signing to keep balance if Jones and Smalling leave (which I hope they do), I’d love to see us give Tuanzebe a real chance.

LB I’d love Rose. I know some people are negative about his injuries and overall performance level but he’d undoubtedly be a huge improvement for us. Hopefully we keep an eye on Tierney and line him up for a move in the next couple of seasons.

DM I’d rather see TFM given a chance in our squad in this position than at RB (that would mean us having to make a signing there though) . I think Matic has done well for us and no harm having him and TFM as our two options next season

Would love Kroos at CM to make the midfield three. Jorginho and Fred both good options too.

Only attacking player on the list that seems exciting is Asensio. Would move heaven, earth and Martial to get him. But given how unlikely it sounds I’d rather stick with the attacking players we have.

Outgoings seem good, possibly Fellaini and Mata to be added to the list? Andreas Perreira another young player who could add to our squad next season too. An interesting and important summer ahead if we’re to close the gap on City and avoid being surpassed by the scousers.

Thanks Ed, for update, some great option there.
Left back options seems trick but I would be happy with Sandro,

Umtiti for CB, either Casimiero or Jorginho though the later doesn't prefer us for CDM,

Sergej would my choice for CM, but is overpriced as you say, Not sure with Kross very good on the ball but with Pogba will have many passengers in the middle,

Isco would be good but seems unlikely, LW seem trick, Asensio, very good, Bale and Perisic very experienced but on the decline, Arnaiz have not seen him play.

Outs, I would like Martial to stay but all the signs tell will be sold.
No mention of Blind but I don't see him staying.

Keep ddg and get likes of alderwierld, Sandro, casemiero, and we will be in a good position. Only worrying factor is all these lw's that we are targeting, even if martial goes we will still have rashford and the 500k man on left. It is someone on the right that we need not on left.

Ed 2 I totally an understand the concept of getting players to fit the team. I can understand City being interested in them but they have already have a very strong core bedded in. We don't. We need two fullbacks possibly another centre half and definitely at least one midfielder and wide player. City already have almost two players for every position. In some positions they have three choices! Ultimately though any team has to have a solid foundation to build on and a defined pattern of play which allows the players the confidence to perform to their best. We have neither. Winning last week just papered over the cracks. The good thing from today's loss is that maybe Jose gets the funds he needs to buy the players needed to get us back to where we used to be. I do not believe Jose is past it. The players today have to take the brunt of criticism. To play so poorly and without urgency and passion is not the fault of the manager. For all the faults he may have Jose would not instruct a team of his to play like that. The players need to man up and show some character.

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea what you expect. You are underwhelmed because MC has better, I explain that four of these players are also interesting MC, and now the problem is that MC have more choices. What is it you are expecting?}

Thanks for that Ed 002, Max would be an excellent buy for United. He would totally revitalise our left side. Shame it isn't likely, he's a good player and exactly what United need. Have a good day.

Thanks a lot Ed, at least we have an idea of transfer targets. It's a bit disappointing though that we aren't focusing so much on RW/ RM/ RB.

Seems a genuine lack of top top quality available. i'm Thinking Jose's tactics/ inspiration/ man-managment skills next season will be more important than recruitment if this is what we have to choose from.

I do not understand why there are so many left wing targets but hardly any on right wing. I thought we are loaded on left wing and we desperately need a right winger. Maybe Sanchez is to be moved to the right this summer?

21.) 17 Apr 2018

I can see Sanchez playing out there next year but being given the freedom that mata has to roam inside.

12daysofhermida why then mess martial around shifting him from left when sanchez arrived if the idea was to play him on the right eventually?

17 Apr 2018 20:26:12
Fantastic insight Ed, Thank you. On Milinkovic-Savic, from reading a while back he seemed our primary target for midfield. Is this still the case or has the price pushed him down the list. Thanks as always.

{Ed002's Note - I think he would be the number one pick.}

So Blind and Fellaini are staying?

{Ed004's Note - I very much doubt it}
