First time poster but followed the site for a long time. Best site around for me, thanks to all the eds who make it possible. Phenomenal job.

Have just seen something on the BBC gossip that Utd have renewed interest in Kroos. Was wondering if anybody could shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It was expected that Kroos would leave last summer even though his initial beef was with Benitez. Howver, Zidane persuaded him to stay regardless of the interest of Manchester City. As I explained in the Sharkopod Manchester United are still considering Kroos but nothing was going to happen in January. Real Madrid, at least the manager, would like to keep him and not sell but there remains a chance that the club may offer him elsewhere to try and facilitate a deal for a striker. The interest of the three other clubs that Hebel approached in the summer will have moved on I would think.}

I know it isn't a United question but wondering is the striker Paulo Dybala of Juventus?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

I was considering posting the same thing purely because I'd love to see Kroos at United, but guessed it's probably red top fodder.

He'd be an ideal replacement for Carrick if we got him.

I don't think we could do any better than Kroos. Verratti maybe but that's never going to happen. Kroos, Pogba, Herrera is a very good midfield 3.

Is there any particular reason why Verratti is unlikely to transfer to us? I've seen it a few times in comments, and I don't understand where its come from.

I don't necessarily think he will, but everyone appears to be fairly optimistic about transfers, until his name is mentioned.

If the reason is simply 'Champions League' etc then fair enough but I didn't know if he disliked Enlgand/ our club/ Mourinho/ specific players. Or is he just either a massive PSG fan or Real/ Bca/ other bound?

He has said on multiple occasions that the only club he would leave PSG for is Barcelona. He has said he has no interest in playing in the EPL.
Put those two points of view together then I think its pretty clear the chances of us signing him are almost non exsistant.

If Verratti comes to the Premier League it be Chelsea, Italian connections and living in London

Plus it's pretty well known Italian players (apart from Zola) don't do well in the Premier League as they are not used to the speed of the league which is a big X for me

Personally he end up at Madrid sometime in the future, Zidane a big fan of his and his style be more suited to a style of Real Madrid

The Carrick position is a interesting one, Ander Herrara could be a potential replacement if is willing to commit to the position, do we buy a carbon copy version of him or do we decide we need someone a bit more of a bite in a Defensive Midfielder

I interested to see if someone like Modric would be available which could be a short term replacement in a Carrick mould, I think it be hard to get Kroos, Verratti or Weigl. Or do we get someone like William Carvalho or the Kessie guy from Atlanta to play more of a Defensive role.

{Ed002's Note - THere have been plenty of Italian players who have done well in the Premier League - Ravinelli, Di Matteo, Vialli, Di Canio, Carbone ....}

I really rate Herrera but he is not a replacement for Carrick.

Sorry ed002 maybe I was a bit harsh on Italian players but part of me feel like some of those where just a PR stunt to get fans into the ground back in the 90s, tbh though they did pretty well at their respected clubs but I don't think they were world beaters, they were just made to look good because they were at bad teams, tbh I probably being very critical on them.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs don't spend millions buying players as a "stunt" to get a few more fans to go to matches.}

Did he not nearly sign for us in the Moyes era?

Kroos / veratti/ thiago are for me the standout playmakers in the game today.
All 3 are at top clubs and will be in no rush to leave where they are. I would imagine none of the 3 will be forced out the door.
Veratti has said he does not fancy playing in epl and would prefer to go stay go home or head for Spain.
Thiago suffers quite a bit with injuries and bayern don't sell easily.
Kroos seems to be happier under Zidane.
I can see Jose signing a raibot / fabhino/ matic type midfielder high energy and more destructive than creative.
Personally and in an ideal world I would like to see veratti or Kroos but I just don't see that happening I hope I'm wrong.
