So Cesc has said "there have never been any talks with MUFC"
So who is lying? Either he is or Moyes. WE wouldn't have bid twice and potentially a third time without some sort of "Talks" or encouragement. So i'd say its lies coming from MUFC, and it supports what I have said from day 1 about going for unobtainable players knowing that we can't get them. Then we sign Fellaini (who I think will do well for us).
Id rather the club came out and just said we aren't going to be spending huge sums as the money isn't there. At least then as fans we would know exactly how the land lies. Instead we hear "no transfer limit" "Things in place for big signing" "Ed Woodward flies home from Oz to conduct Urgent Transfer" and what have we got so far.

1.) 08 Aug 2013
We're getting the wig and the gnome from Everton or no one. This talk of Fabregas and Ronaldo is BS so gullable fans will think they tried.

2.) 08 Aug 2013
Not to worry we've only wasted a month. I'm sure we can get Darren Gibson, should only take 3 weeks before he tells united that he's happy where he is.

Coups

3.) 08 Aug 2013
Disgusting. United letting us down again. Squad was good for fergie but we needed big players in and have no chance getting them.

4.) 08 Aug 2013
All this means is that we held no discussions with him and barca just flat rejected the offers so we didn't have a chance to
cred

5.) 08 Aug 2013
I agree with sambo. How about some honesty moyes and Woodward. At least fergie and gill never embarrassed themselves by saying we are bidding for so and so. When really they were never going to come. At this rate we will end up signing joey Barton, Stewart downing, Antonio Ferdinand and Wayne bridge.

Come on, prove me wrong. Sign witzel, willan, gaitan and shaw.

6.) 08 Aug 2013
It looks like the same old story with Utd this summer and I am as disappointed as the next fan. But I am reserving my judgement until the end of the window because it's a new manager and I think even this board want to give him the best possible start. The way this window is panning out it looks more and more likely there will be bargains to be had at Madrid once they sign Bale and Ronaldo re-signs. Di Maria and Ozil for Rooney and a few quid. Who wouldn't be happy with RVP and Kagawa, Di Maria and Ozil interchanging all over the place behind him. Carrick +one other would do with that front four. Maybe not as far fetched as it seems. I doubt it though. I want some flair players, touch of class. We've been torture to watch the last few years, **** an enforcer, footballs not like that anymore.

7.) 08 Aug 2013
No lies at all. We made two ambitious bids and they were not accepted. End off. No need to take to the player so no lies. get a grip guys.

Personally I think the deal could have happened but Tito leaving was the curve ball.

So when we talk of Real's summer business it's Ronaldo (re-signing), Bale, Suarez etc. Barca its Neymar etc. Bayern its Gotze, Thiago etc. And United. Fellaini and a fullback! It's not a gap between us and them now, its a gulf! Disgusting! Could be a long season ahead. !

9.) 08 Aug 2013
So far sambo all we have is negativity!

rednev

10.) 08 Aug 2013
Nobody is lying. Clubs are not allowed to talk to players under contract without their club's permission. We have certainly talked to his agent and that is where all the encouragement has come from.

11.) 08 Aug 2013
It was all bluff. Moyes and Woodward aare both FLOPS. Fellaini and Baines are not for sale, another flop.
Hoping that UTD would not be struggliong in the relation zone.

12.) 08 Aug 2013
The whole Fabregas thing was nothing short of a PR stunt - anyone could see through that. Does anyone here really believe that if we were going after Fabregas with a serious view to buying him that we'd be going round telling everyone that at news conferences?
PR stunt to sell season tickets, nothing more and we should expect nothing more.

13.) 08 Aug 2013
Slagging off moyes and woodward already? They bid for one of the greatest midfielders around at the momment? Shows our intent doesn't it? Have faith in them we will sign players. At least their not going after average players?

14.) 08 Aug 2013
If the club are smart, they should sign Falliani as soon as possible. And yes, they guy is for sale. Everton are not Barca, and Felliani wants out.

SLred.

15.) 08 Aug 2013
At no point did anyone say we were in talks with cesc, we bid for him and it was rejected so we weren't allowed. too many people on here sticking the knife into moyes and woodward before the season has even started. we all want to see us strenghten the squad but regardless if we don't u should stand behind the manager and the team!

red jay

16.) 08 Aug 2013
Rednev, you say all we have is negativity. Zaha aside and the other youngsters what have been the positives. Bear in mind we are talking transfer dealings here. We have all been led to believe we are after the best players in the world. Yet its all talk isn't it? I sincerely hope I am wrong, but the longer this goes on the more worrying it is.
The league will not be the problem, I think we will finish 2nd or 3rd, but the Champions League we will struggle. Other elite teams have strengthened significantly as Diatribe stated above.

17.) 08 Aug 2013
They should have keep it quiet. SAF who speak about rooney (revenge for 3 years ago), Moyes and Woodward who make high hope to every fans about signing big.

If the big signing end up to be Fellaini. i'm going to be so F****** Angry.

JLBER84

18.) 08 Aug 2013
The whole summer seems like a PR stunt to me. No talks at all with Thiago Alcantra it seems, posturing over Fabregas and nothing more, these Ronaldo rumours - its all rubbish and a PR stunt.
How soon will we see "MOYES OUT" banners at Old Trafford and away games?

19.) 08 Aug 2013
Modric/Ozil, Baines and Fellaini.

20.) 08 Aug 2013
JLBER84 - Tell you what mate, go to Stoke or West Ham and watch midfielders of the quality of Cleverley et al. (Except Diame at West Ham who is far better than Cleverley or Anderson). If you can't get Cesc or Gotze you go for the best you can. Fellaini is so much better than any midfielder, except Carrick, that we have it's just unreal. Get Cabaye as well and our midfield looks stronger than it has since the days of Scholes and Keane being in their pomp. Of course I'm not saying Fellaini and Cabaye are as good as Scholes or Keane at their best, but they are high level players, both play for good international sides too. You can moan on about conspiracies and how f****d Off you'll be, but United with Fellaini, Baines and Cabaye and youngsters of great potential coming through, will make United a potent force.
Mik

21.) 08 Aug 2013
To talk to the player we need to have had a bid accepted so why are you accusing Moyes of lying? When has he ever said we have talked to Fabregas?
Invisible STuey

22.) 08 Aug 2013
Great. So we should be happy that we're bringing in some players who managed an impressive 6th last year. How's that improving the team. In fact we're no closer to signing Fellaini than we are Cesc. We could end up with nothing. Just keeping Rooney will seem like a result the way this transfer window has gone. Seriously disappointed in Moyes so far.

23.) 08 Aug 2013
You are right MIK. We can just accept everything and start moaning in 3-4-5 years about the fact than Real Madrid-Barcelona-Bayern take over as the biggest club in the world!

you can slash me if it make you feel better, but i'm not the worst here. Just sad that the club I love put themself in so many situation in the past.

I just don't understand why we have to settle for squad player when we don't have full starting eleven!

24.) 08 Aug 2013
Well said sambo, iv also been saying the same thing for over a month too. This may not actually be a new phenomina either. Its possible that sanchez and hazard were intentionally unrealised transfers too.

As far as this strange PR campaign goes, iv personally cooled down a bit, after being somewhat livid. In fairness it can be said that the club needs to be careful in their relationship with sponsors. It may be important to put on a show of ambition and strength, and that means the present situation might not just be about what the board want fans to think. They may be more worried about their investability. There is also the psychological aspect on the pitch. If united become thought of as a weakened club, particularly with new management, players might loose confidence when they come up against other big sides.

I don't think the approach is right, but I do think there are some justifications in its favour.

My comment to the board would be similar though. - There is no shame in not being able to compete transfer wise with football's oligarks.
If the board were honest to us fans, I think we would be more supportive of "alternative" transfer plans anyway, such as buying players like zaha's and developing them, or the signing of "kagawa's", - who is of course commercially valuable and a great talent. Its indeed disappointing when people within the club work against the people that are supporting it, both literally - and of course, financially too.

In busby's era, united didn't have a reputation and was the smaller manchester club. We had to become an innovative team back then too. United were the first big side to specialise in producing youth players. The fans reaction was not disapproving. It was appreciative. They took a great deal of pride in what we did back then, and eventually our footballing philosophy won worldwide respect. If we are successful with "alternative" transfer plans today, whether it be through youth, adapting talent from emerging countries, or refining already talented young players, we can earn just as much respect for any given footballing philiosophy today, as has always been the case. Sponsors had no trouble getting behind the likes of Geroge best, beckham or ronaldo afterall, and at their peak, they were all feared and admired by europes best. People can get behind any kind of approach if there is honesty and trust there, and corporations can get behind anyone that has become successful. Most importantly an honest approach would put the fans firmly behind the club and management, rather than at odds with it.

A united united will make a better club! Please be real with us.
Redwolf.

25.) 08 Aug 2013
MU would certainly not be talking to Cesc as that is tapping up. Very well worded by Cesc. I wouldn't expect him to say anything different being a Barcelona player. One more bid to come I think.

Sydney!

26.) 08 Aug 2013
It amazes me that people are getting upset about what's happened. Come on guys smell the coffee. When Woodward took over he stated we would not need any major changes in our team just a few minor adjustments. Now does that sound like Ronaldo is coming home or Bale is coming.
Of course its does not. Maybe Fellani or Baines but by todays standards are they what we need to close the gap on Madrid or Barca. A great big no I'm afraid. Just look at what all the other teams have done in the close season.
What have United done a £2 million unknown fullback. Its a disgrace.
It really does make you think what Fergie and Gill knew before they jumped ship. Fergie said he knew his targets. Was he told he could not sign them. So he said ok get on with it then I'm off. As soon as a team starts to too stand still then the decline is rapid. Look at the Scousers.
We have needed changes now for a few years we have decent squad players but not a great team. I know we have won the league I know we only lost on goal difference to the bitters the year before.
I have not forgot the showing up at Wembley against Barca. Or the mauling in Rome against Barca. That is when the rot started and it was not addressed. Some will say if Nani had not got sent off we would have won the E cup this year. Do you really think we could live with Bayern, in your dreams.
Anderson Cleverley Nani Vallencia
Wellbeck Young would not get into any of the top teams in Europe.
We need to address the midfield. We need class players not maybe's or has been's, We have enough of them. Can you imagine Giggs playing in Bayerns or Barcas first team now lol absoloutely not.
Evra has not been good enough for the last two years. Vidic and I think he's been great but injuries have took their toll.
Why have these issues been swept under the carpet.
Ok so what happens next.
Well the glazers are not spending any of OUR money they still have Ronaldos money in the war chest. So let's look at the youth we have. It will possibly be we win nothing for a few years. So be it. I am sick of losing young players because we do not give them a chance. Look at Pogba it would cost £30 million to get him back. I can understand how he felt when Fergie would not play him but brought back Scholes and continued to play Giggs, Cleverley and Anderson (if fit).
Yes we may sign a couple of run of the mill players this year we may not. We got RVP last year great won us the league probably but a factor may well have been the opposition were not that great

Until the glazers decide to call it a day I am afraid this is the future guys the teams with the sugar daddies will buy the great players.
Fair play your' having a laugh. There is always ways round it. When the bitters can get name sponsorship on a ground they do not own off their owners what hope is there.
I know some will not agree with me and everyone is entitled to their opinions but please guys open your eyes to what's happening.

27.) 08 Aug 2013
I suspect the Fabregas saga isn't quite over yet.

28.) 08 Aug 2013
In Busby's era we did not have a reputation. I have just picked myself up off the floor.
Have you really not heard of the famous Busby babes. The greatest young team ever assembled that contained the greatest player of them all Duncan Edwards. Only the Munich crash stopped total domination. You surely mean prior to the Busby era which was before the war, that was when City were better known. Do not forget that Busby took United into Europe. The first English team to do it. United also had a great team before the Babes so to say we were a second force to City is a joke. City to their credit let us use their ground brcause Old Trafford had been bombed.
No my friend when Busby was there we were second to no one.
I have a feeling that you probably think Cantona is Uniteds greatest ever player lol

29.) 08 Aug 2013
Can you honestly seeing Fergie inviting Moyes to his house. To tell him your the next manager of MUFC. Oh and by the way Moysie you will have no money to spend, that's why my self and David Gill are leaving. 2weeks left yet to transfer deadline. let's all moan after that if we don't sign anyone. Rooney to shine this year. Just not sure who for.

Disgraceful. Call yourself a red?

31.) 08 Aug 2013
Im just wondering if this was the case then why didn't Fabregas come out and say he's happy earlier?! It doesn't add up!

Adz

32.) 08 Aug 2013
Fabregas could be a smokescreen for the CR7 deal. No-one gave us a chance of signing RvP but we pulled it off. The homecoming of CR7 would be the ideal replacement for Rooney and it would appease the sceptics.

33.) 08 Aug 2013
"One more bid to come I think.

Sydney!" - What? The player has said he wants to stay at Barca, we have even made a statement respectign his decision. What on earth makes you think we will make another bid? No Strootman, no Garay, no Baines, no Fellaini, no Fabregas, no Ronaldo. We are going to sign players, and I really thought Thiago would be one, however I have said against the grain we won't sign any of the above and I still stick by it. i'm still expecting two signings and relative surprises. I think Bale would have been a serious target but it seems the price is sky high and he has set his heart, like Modric before him on Madrid. The player I would like us to move for is Koke for central midfield but still dotn read of any interest from any party at all which surprises me the money pinging about this summer.

34.) 08 Aug 2013
We're not standing still. Rooney is loitering by the door marked 'exit' and his leaving will make us immeasurably weaker. Like Pogba last season, he cannot be replaced.

Only positive of Rooney leaving will be the Glazers having another £40m to splurge on fast cars and houses!

If English Clubs under perform in Europe again, we could be looking at a downgrade to only 3 qualifiers. Sorry, guys, we'll be battling it out with the usual suspects. Not what my club deserve!

35.) 09 Aug 2013
To 'I washed David Peggs car', you took the words our of my mouth, I think you picked yourself up off the floor before me!

And to Sydney!. I would have agreed, what else could Fabrigas have said, until I read the statement from United. I think this particular chase is over.

"I washed David Peggs car"

If your going to take the time to post about someones comment, - please read it in full before doing so.

Yes thank you for pointing out that busby's era was a dynamic one. Forgive me for a technical mistake in trying to write quickly.

Had you read the post properly, you would have understood the "reputation" I was talking about refers to the reputation of manchester united before busby arrived and during his early years in the 1940's. The point describes how we went from being a team with no reputation, to one that boasted the talent of the busby babes. - and even what was actually a superior side, - the 1950's team, a decade before.

Matt busby's legacy, as you have correctly pointed out in referring to the busby babes, was in the production of youth talent, and that was something that began a long time before, in the late 40's and early 50's when united did not have the reputation they eventually had by 1968. The point is that this was an "alternative" transfer policy. It was necessary in the 1940's, because we were not one of the status quo at that time. -We had to do something different.

The policy, again, as you point out, was very successful, - well received and highly respected around the world by united fans and neutrals alike.

The meaning of the post is to say that the board can use alternative transfer policies, just like we did in the 50's and 60's - (the idea of youth development was very new at that time. ) The board do not have to be afraid to admit that we do not have the same funds as our rivals. It may be slightly damaging in the short run, but in the long run, success using any transfer policy will allow us to remain the giants we are today, both on and off the pitch. Best, beckham and ronaldo are all good evidence of the brand strength united can have without signing marquee players. My opinion is simply that it would be better to acknowledge that we are going to be competing "creatively" from now on, so that fans can develop a sense of pride in doing so - as we had in the 50's and 60's. If we were to sign someone like kondogbia from sevilla, for example, wouldn't it be better if we were able to collectively get behind that player and support them, rather than them being seen as a disappointing alternative to fabregas? Confidence plays a big role in success, and its difficult for a football team to have that when its own fans are not fully behind the players tasked with winning major trophies.
